Everton Youth Teams Thread

Joint top of the league and progressing two Forest kids on loan.
Forest kids on loan at County. Imagine that here!!

Not sure about this though TBH. Under the old youth loan rules, I wouldn't have a problem sending some of the younger players out for a month or so here and there. If Nolan manages as he played, I'd send him lads who you thought would benefit from a bit of toughening up.

But we were talking abut setting up an arrangement here to send multiple players to County. Firstly, I don't think we should be making that arrangement with a team playing in L2. Secondly, I would want to see more evidence that Nolan would be a good manager to trust our young players with.

In recent years we have had 2 or 3 players careers seemingly ruined by poor loan choices, so it's important we get these decisions right.

Is he?. TBH I haven't followed the guy's managerial career at all. Probably my dislike for him ruling my head as I've always hated him as a player.

Is he getting a reputation for working well with younger players?

Living in Nottingham I can tell you he's taken a Notts County squad that's been on a depressing spiral of under performance for years and got them playing winning football in a very short space of time. Can't vouch for what kind of budget he's been given.

When I watched our u23s against them in the Checkatrade the team was a blend of youth and experience which played some decent football especially in the first half. He's a foul mouthed arrogant tit on the touch line though.

..yep, 1-2 final score. I find that so disappointing.

It is a good indicator, but in all honesty a night flight and a match the day before is far from ideal preparation for the game. Essentially we wrote it off the moment we took under 18's out to Cyprus.

We have underachieved in this competition for many years, yet have had more debuts in the first team than I can remember, which is odd.

When all's said and done, I suppose this is the equivalent of the F A Cup. Although the F A Youth cup receives much more recognition and coverage, one would assume that the U18 PL is the true stick to be measured by and, last year excepted, we have performed exceedingly well in that competition. Arguably only City have performed better over the last 4/5 years.

That probably explains the number of youth first team debuts better than our youth cup performances.

As disappointing as tonight’s result was, it’s all about the development of players at this age over successful teams. Feeney, Hornby and Gordon will have gained more from the experience of being out in Cyprus then playing tonight.

I think your dislike of him as a person/player is massively influencing your feelings towards this possible link.

Quite possibly, but I am doing my best to park that, honestly.

Turning it on it's head mate, presumably you must think it would be a good idea to set up an arrangement with County/Nolan. Which of our youth players do you think would benefit from loan spells with them.?

I never necessarily said it would be a good thing, and not because it’s Nolan or County, but because I don’t think L2 is where we should be sending our players. Even our best U18’s should be going L1 minimum in my opinion. Anyone can shine in L2.

Basically what I said other than I also wanted to see more of Nolan as a manager before trusting him with our kids. Which I would say of any manager who only had a year experience.

I'd say thats pretty fair. I do dislike the guy and will never forgive him for the tackle on Victor. But if I thiught he could improve some of our boys Id give him a go. Just to soon to judge yet.

2 games at the top of the u18s table today and i watched both

Liverpool with 10 men drew 2-2 at man utd, liverpool had a player sent off at 1-0 down for 2 yellows in 1st half when it should have been a straight red,Liverpool then scored scored two 2nd half goals to to take lead, then conceeded a 94th min equaliser to man utd

Leaders Man city lose another game in hand [over us] 2-0 at Derby County, the 1st derby goal a great strike from 20 odd yards into top corner, plus man city missed an injury time pen when there player tried to be clever doing one of those chipped pens down the middle and hit it over the bar-Derby is our u18s next match in a months time

Man city and Liverpool both play again before we do

Table
Man city 22 points from 10 games
Man utd 21 points from 11 games
Everton 20 points from 10 games
Liverpool 20 points from 10 games
Derby 20 ponts from 11 games

Dont forget Everton u23s game away to Leicester on monday at 1pm,live on Leicesters website

Regarding Knotts if they get promoted to league 1 I think it could be should be an option. Barnsley is one I would consider in the championship. They play good football, and Williams has thrived there. Plus they've been good to us with Stones and Holgate. Both those clubs aren't even big spenders relative to the others around them so I would think they would be more amenable to taking more than one. We have a lot of young lads who will make a career in football with us or elsewhere. Having 2 at one club playing every week seems like a win win under those conditions.

Any chance of an update on the following players guys?

Feeney -- Opinions on whether he can be 4th choice CB next season?
Adeniran -- Which player is he similar to? Does he look a good buy with potential to make the 1st team squad?
Bowler -- I expected to hear people raving about him on here due to his position/price...hows he been doing?
Gibson -- How does he compare to other defenders who've come through, best as LB or CB ?
Markelo + u23 foreign signings -- been dead quiet about anyone...still adjusting or no impact?
