Everton Youth Teams Thread

Ha, first half I was thinking that I really don’t rate Bassala Sambou, give Gordon a chance instead, then he comes up with a spectacular goal to make it 2-0

Someone on here said recently that Sambou is a scorer of great goals, but not necessarily a great goal scorer yet.

I think he's one we should definitely try and find first team football for somewhere next year.

Hornby impresses me as well. He's got a pass in him as well as being a physical presence in front of goal. Another one who could benefit from a loan move next year. Of course we still need to fill out our U23 team.

Bit of a tight balance here. I think we have a lot of lads who are ready for some form of 1st team football, but we can't loan them all out.

The U23 squad is rather large and will soon have the older lads from the 18's joining them. We can loan as many as we want out and plug in the gaps. Better to have them out on loan than bottlenecking in our youth teams.

I agree. We're a little thin upfront though aren't we? Could you see both Hornby and Sambou going out on loan next season?

Doesn't matter if we're thin if both go on loan; the results in youth football are meaningless. We'd play 4-6-0 if it meant the right players were getting men's football out on loan wouldn't we.

Plus we still have Dyson, Lavery, Broadhead and the U18 strikers. Hornby has only really recently been converted to a centre forward.

True. I'm all for loaning them out at the first possible time. Hornby and Sambou both look like men. They have the physiques for professional football. Throw them in the mixer asap then.

Some of Hornby’s best bits tonight came when he dropped into midfield, the commentator was surprised at some of his delicate, weighted forward passes , like he didn’t know his history of starting out as a midfielder. Given the premium for strikers his size we’ll stick with him as he’s doing well .I hope we can get the best out of his midfield skills too , last time I looked , November I think , Scotland U19s were still playing him in midfield.

Gordon is bossing the 18s level. Wonder how long before we see him bumped to the 23s? I think he needs to be challenged to be honest. A year and change in the 23's and then a loan or 1st team for a talent like that. He's been scoring for fun from the midfield.
A couple of seasons ago he'd have gone straight into the U23s mate. But, despite having half a dozen or more on loan in the championship, we are already overloaded with players at that level. Combination of the number of contracts we've been issuing to scholars and our current policy of buying in players in that age group.

After tonight's game I'd be looking to get Evans out on loan to the championship and maybe Gordon could take his place. It would be good if he could get the U18s into the play offs though. Not sure they'd make it without him. But at the end of the day it's what's best for the players development that counts.

I've said that in the past but to be fair I'm probably not the only one.

If anybody has a video of tonights edition to his "great goal" collection, could they please post it. missed it because I was having my tea:p

Main reason we have an overloaded squad is the change from U21's to U23's.

We dont have that many oldies apart from Garbutt who is over 24 now. Most of the players last night were under 20 and I think thats pretty standard for this team.

Think the only ones over 21 have been given extended contracts due to injury like Byrne & Dyson. They wont be reneed after this season. Oh and Baxter Not sure why we"re wasting game time on him.
