Everton Youth Teams Thread

We dont have that many oldies apart from Garbutt who is over 24 now. Most of the players last night were under 20 and I think thats pretty standard for this team.

Think the only ones over 21 have been given extended contracts due to injury like Byrne & Dyson. They wont be reneed after this season. Oh and Baxter Not sure why we"re wasting game time on him.

Yeh but that's still a few players more than we normally would have. Like Gethin Jones as well before his transfer.

Gordon's goal was simply sublime. That kid has a future.

Love the way he just calmly side foots it from 20+ yards. No power on it, just curls beautifully back in to the far post. So classy.

Hoi! I’m claiming “ the new right footed Dowell “ from the other day :) . I see they’re giving Adedoyin the first goal not Mampala.

Evans has a bit of that about him imo. Gordon can be the next Evans, don't want to put too much pressure on him! :D

We're gonna be hard pressed to fit all these guys in to our team in a few years, but if we can we'll have an ace 3 to play in behind the striker!

Hornby impresses me as well. He's got a pass in him as well as being a physical presence in front of goal. Another one who could benefit from a loan move next year. Of course we still need to fill out our U23 team.

Bit of a tight balance here. I think we have a lot of lads who are ready for some form of 1st team football, but we can't loan them all out.

The U23 squad is rather large and will soon have the older lads from the 18's joining them. We can loan as many as we want out and plug in the gaps. Better to have them out on loan than bottlenecking in our youth teams.

If they're ready for it then it's definitely best to get them out on loan imo. Like someone else mentioned above, their development is more important than the u23's success, as good and important as that also is.

Think we'll be looking to offload most. The lads at Sunderland, Pennington, Dyson and Dyffus. Luckily I think only Garbutt has a long contract.

That Swiss lad is the interedting one. Does anyone know whats happening with his injury.

Shani Tarashaj . I saw something the other day that said he’d just about recovered from his injury and may be ready to go out on another loan in January if his rehab is complete by the end of the month.

Yeah, last night was virtually u21. And we still have a number of youngsters who haven’t featured much / at all this season. I’m thinking of Lavery, Kiersey and Bramall who moved up from the u18s , Mathis and Bowler . I’m assuming Henen and Byrne will be moved on , either loan or permanent at end of season.
It’ll start to even out next season when the u18 second years are ready to move up, only Hornby and Denny look definites to me, throw in Ouzonidis and Mampala for his recent goals as possibles and I then struggle to get more than four but I’m sure we’ll go for more .

Agree. We're looking at the lad from Charlton now but I think part of that may be as company for Lookman. We won't lose money on him anyway. Can also see us going for that Hirst lad who's out of contract in the summer. He's mates with Feeney and Adenirin from the England squad and apparently his dad fell out with his club because they dismissed our approaches in the summer.

There's also Josh Bowler who hasn't featured quite as much as I expected. Has Donkor gone back to Wolfsburg do you know?

Yes.

..I was wondering about Hirst, he seems to have gone off the radar when I thought he’d be getting game time at Wednesday. The fact he’s had a falling out and is running down his contract might explain it.

Update on a former Everton youth, Oliver Shannon. He was drafted in the recent MLS draft, so he's taken a different route to a pro career. The Liverpool, England native spent 13 years at the Everton Youth Academy and was a member of the side that won the 2013-14 Youth Premier League. He went the US University route after leaving Everton.

Shannon was a four-year starter at Clemson where he started 74 of his 82 appearances. The English midfielder contributed a total of 13 goals and 17 assists during his college career and helped Clemson reach the final of the 2015 College Cup. He was a Third Team All-ACC selection as a sophomore, Second Team All-ACC selection as a junior and First Team All-ACC selection as a senior in 2017.

Good news about Oliver Shannon, I always like to see former youths doing well elsewhere. From the bits and pieces I've read about him he seems a bright lad.

Can't remember who it is but I saw at least one or two others have followed him along the US College soccer path.

At the worst they end up with a degree and an amazing experience.

I think more lads should take that option seriously. The numbers suggest very, very few will make it professionally in England at 18-22.

Jack Harrison, at New York Red Bull has done this and made such a name for himself that's he's on the verge of being bought by Stoke (his hometown club).
