Everton Youth Teams Thread

......the lads will be gutted but some fine performances, Galloway is rapid and throws in a fine challenge. Ledson very good, Walsh and Dowell also impressed. Happy after that.

Galloway looked superb. Walsh looks as comfortable on the ball as I've seen in a player in a long time and I thought Henen ( apart from those last 12 minutes where he was goosed ) led the line well.

Anyone happen to know the makeup of the Liverpool team, our U21s included several 17 yr olds (Ledson, Kenny, Connolly, Walsh iirc) and just wondered if theirs did as well.

Not sure but as usual they look a poor bunch to me. They never seem to produce anyone of note anymore. I know if I was a teenager scouted by both clubs I would be looking at Evertons academy and think there's definitely a passageway into the 1st team or very worst a career in football with someone else.

Alarming to me that equaliser, type of ball the first team have conceded all season too, typical RS last minute injury time winner(n),thought we played some decent stuff second half,Jones,Henen ,Ledson and the kid who came on Dowell did well,Keeper looks pretty good too,on the downside Browning looks to have gone backwards,Galloway looks decent then makes a mistake, bit too inconsistant for me at the moment, can't see Green making it,and Junior?why's he still here?lol

A call needs to be made on Browning, he's reached the age where he's learnt all he can from the academy, he can't just spend a whole season just playing for the under 21's and sometimes being on the bench. I don't want him to fall into the Duffy loop.

Distin will go and the seasons end and there's been no indication that Alcaraz will re-sign so Martinez (I feel even Unsworth should voice his opinion on it) wether Browning will be up to first team football next season or we loan him out and let him get a whole season under his belt.

I think we should loan him out, let him get a whole season under his belt, would be fantastic for his development.

agreed though Walsh did well for us, the keepers kicking was awful get hitting it wide and out of play, we didn't create enough going forward, they had more chances , though we could have done with an out and out attacker as Helen,s best work seemed to be our wide, Green looked very ordinary and what is junior ?
They had a few decent players thought that maquire at the back had a decent game and one or two others.

....have to agree with you, Maccavennie. Galloway looks good to me. Ledson and him the absolute pick and if a couple can come through that will be good.

.......browning has all the physical attributes, an outstanding athlete. I think he's one who will develop with time but he's not the class act that Galloway is. So difficult to predict with youngsters.

....not sure, LL. Sakho played, lad on the left gave Kenny a tough time. Kenny tried to pinch the ball a few times and got skinned, not certain but I think the same lad scored the last minute winner. I have to admit to watching 2 Cheltenham Preview programmes in parallel, and the United game was also on but Ledson, Galloway and Walsh looked impressive. Dowel only came on late but you can understand the fuss, great left foot. He doesn't seem the greatest mover but certainly a fine young footballer.

I agree about browning he needs a season on loan.
He has something about him would love to see him come through

How did Walsh play mate, I missed the match last night.

To answer an earlier posters question I doubt Liverpool had quite as many younger players as us. Connolly, Ledson, Kenny, Walsh, Dowell, Donuhue are all 17 or under.

At first I never got the fuss with Dowell, when he would play in the under 18's as an under 16. But the more I see him the more you can see he is a very clever player and a natural number 10.

He reminds me of Ozil. He picks space up brilliantly, and has a picture in his head of where he would like to pass too before the ball arrives. He will need to improve his physical attributes mind, but for someone so young looks a really natural "number 10".

As I keep saying the under 18's group we have is the best we'e had since 1998 when around 6 made it to the first team. None of that team were "Rooneys" but they all did (or should have with the right management) made careers in the top flight.

The above 6 names I've mentioned all stand a chance, with a couple of others who have not been fit (Brewster has been injured this season but has great potential). With the right management they will all progress well.

...I think I remember you saying Dowell reminds you of Ozil, that would be good. He's talented with the ball but doesn't look the most mobile. It's so hard to gauge but he has a chance. I was impressed with Walsh. If I compared him to anybody it would be Besic in terms of his small frame, movement and tenacity. He's comfortable on the ball, once had it tight to the touch line but didn't panic and played a nice pass forward. I also noticed that he takes all the set pieces which is something with Ledson in the team.
