Anyone else really disappointed with the U23s this season?

I know it's not all about results but we seem to be a lot worse this year despite spending millions on new players

..from what I read recently, the club are looking to purchase players for that squad in the summer.

Not really mate. From last seasons champions we have 7 out on loan, 2/3 now with the first team squad, and Walsh transferred to Bristol City.

Our best centre back, Feeney, is out injured. The midfield powerhouse of Adeniran and Baningime have not played for a while and Evans looks like he's also injured. To cap it all Hornby looks like he picked up an injury today also. That's the spine of the team right there.

Not getting much game time mate. He's in the matchday squads but they seem to have a settled midfield that they're happy with at the moment and whilst they are still serious contenders for the play offs it looks like the manager isn't going to play around with that.

...Calvert-Lewin and Holgate fall into the category of players bought for U23s, so I suppose the answer to that is yes. Galloway is another who came through. Lookman and Stones probably went straight in. Lewis Gibson is only 17 but looks a prospect at U23, whilst Bowler and Adeniran haven’t pushed on to date.

I suppose they are very low risk and high reward purchases.

Reality is we’ve generally had two poor intakes prior to last season and while some individuals have come through , Feeney, Evans, Beni in one year Hornby, Denny , Ouzounidis the next we’ve needed to plug gaps . Markelo for instance though touted as potentially midfield seems to be our only decent right back at U23s . If you don’t keep up then you end up like United, U21 Champions two years ago , looking like relegation this season last time I looked.

Looking at yesterday’s lineup we really need to move Henen , Grant and Jose Baxter on in the summer. In fairness they do contribute with experience but time to be harsh , help find them other clubs and let younger players take their place.

We also seem to be recruiting at u16 level for next season, we’ve signed Max Thompson from United and there’s an unconfirmed rumour of a Fulham kid joining us. George Hirst from Sheffield Wed is still being rumoured, and he’s returned to their teams after some kind of dispute with the club. It would be good to get one or two exciting prospects in at U23s , but having said that , given the loans, injuries and the young age of our players we should have a competitive team next season with our own exciting prospects coming through.

3rd place Everton u18s on 34 points after 18 games,play AWAY TO 4th placed man city who have 27 points from 16 games tomorrow [sat 11am ko],in the 1st of 2 games in a few days for the u18s [play sunderland home tuesday 1pm ko]-Everton remain 8 points from top with game in hand,with 4 games left including tomorrows,

yeah I think it was against Newcastle, yanno what though it may have even been U18 rather than U23, so 4 goals from him in that standard may not be as special

Adeniran hasn't played for the U18's and has indeed been out injured for a while now. Before that though I liked the look of him with Beni in the middle; real powerhouse for his age.
