Everton Youth Teams Thread

To echo much of what Blueloon said above it was interesting game. Carroll I've written about before some pages back but looks a very decent young player. I'd only seen him play in the 10 before, but he played deeper today and controlled the pace of the game, always wanted the ball, has got a bit of nastiness about him. The other player for me who caught my eye was Hunt, who again has good technique, plays with his head up and always seemed to have time on the ball. Hughes made up the 3 in midfield, and is a physical presence and that was certainly the strongest area of the side.

I was a little underwhelmed by Ellis Simms who looks a bit lad but for me seemed to lack a bit of fitness and doesn't seem to put himself about enough for me.

Watching Everton young sides you often get quite a similar pattern. technically we are very competent on the ball, we are normally combative, well organised and comfortable in possession if not incisive. We are quite reminiscent of a late Moyes side in how we play. The number 2 looked a big lad who played centre half and can hit cornfield balls well. We've seen that with Foulds before, Collins in the second half and even Gibson in the reserves. We seem to produce that sort of player well. Number 8 Hughes is quite similar to how Connolly played and Denny before him.

What we really lack is pace in the final third. We don't seem to have many magic players in that area. I think this is partly down to the money you have to pay to get them. Liverpool often pay big fees. with large wages to get lads in. Sometimes it works with Sterling but other times they can be expensive flops. We don't seem to have many reducers though and haven't really looked to have someone who create havoc in the final hird since Barkley/Hallam hope at that level.

The Portuguese lad (Bruno) played a little like Coutinho, moved in a similar way and seemed happier inside. Most of the players did, but we do lack pace and power in wide areas.

I thought they did well today, the opposition are well thought of and seemed to have a year or so on us across the pitch. They were much bigger physically. Most of our team were first year scholars which bodes well. That development makes a big difference at that level, I mentioned how Simms looked a lot bigger and so did Collins in the 2nd half. You can see players like Hughes in midfield will grow into quite a tall lad, and may grow 3-4 inches in the next year, so it makes a big difference.

Either way a decent work out, and Hunt/Carroll did very well.

Adedoyin is quick when he gets a game.

Just back from the game, a few thoughts
Markelo struggled at right back, browning and Pennington were too big and strong for their forwards.

Galloway has regressed badly from where he was 3 years ago.

Williams when he played it simple looked good too many times in the first half he was playing the Hollywood pass,

Charsley and broadhead looked like they had something about them.

Gordon looked lightweight and struggled with the pace and took too long on the ball.

Hornby needs to spend sometime with big dunc on timing of jumps and generally using his size better.

Anderian when he came on looked busy and put his foot in, and would be my tip to make the 1st team.

THE DRAW FOR THE Group Stage of the U18S PREM LEAGUE CUP has just been made

The six group winners and the two best runners-up, decided by total points and then goal difference followed by head-to-head record, will advance to the quarter-finals.

There’s an u16 ‘s equivalent to this tournament which was introduced last year, City and Chelsea contested the final then , City won.
It’s the same groupings as in the u18 one. Clubs play each other once, home or away. The six group winners and two best runners-up, decided by total points and then goal difference and head-to-head record, will advance to the quarter-finals.

It would be nice to get a look at the u16 teams, we appear to have some promising players at u16 , u15 level , the club chooses to keep them under wraps at this age though.

It looks like the u23s Game v Leicester monday night is at Goodison, going by a few different things that say were it's played
Plus the u18s are away to Derby with midday ko tomorrow, that has not been said if its on there website yet

I’m still registered for Derby so they’ll probs email nearer the time.
I would check your pass etc now mate,to make sure it works still, mine said they cleared passwords etc from last season, and you need to reregister again, but when i tried at 1st it was saying the email/pass they said had been cleared still existed-it then give me a fan id number which is now my username as well as me making new pass up-the Fan Id CAME UP ON MINE,when it said the email that they had cleared was still in use-if the game ends up been on that is
