Everton Youth Teams Thread

I haven't followed the youth team this season, but what's the story? I don't think I've seen any of the young lads given even a bench slot this season, and even Baningme seems a long way from the first team. We don't have a huge first team squad so you'd think some might have pushed themselves into contention, but nothing. Are there no young lads really making a case or does Silva just not fancy them?

Our bench for the last PL game was:

Substitutes
  • Baines
  • Mina
  • Tosun
  • Bernard
  • Stekelenburg
  • Coleman
  • Davies
Are you expecting any 17-20 year old to be displacing any of those on the bench?

We do, it's massive for a squad with no European football

@Nymzee nailed it in a sentence - none are currently good enough. End of. I can add some flowery waffle to put it in perspective and give us hope, we could do with some hope. Our most consistent U23 has been 24 year old Tyias Browning . Say no more. Next is probably 19 year old Morgan Feeney , who has promise but needs to kick on. Three of our promising 18/19 year olds have been out injured , Fraser Hornby, Lewis Gibson and Alex Denny, although there’s nothing to suggest from them they would have been pushing for a squad place yet, but who knows. At the next level are the 17/18 year olds who’ve played mainly u18 football , there’s about 6 or7 who first of all need to prove themselves at U23s level , as they are nowhere near PL level yet. So a bit of promise and hope for the future.

So nothing against Silva. I would say the most likely U23 to make his first team debut this season is 19 year old 3rd choice keeper Joao Virginia.
