Everton Youth Teams Thread

Oh well , time for a few additions of “ Booo” and “ Sell” before the Ellis Simms thread is shut down while we await the next thread .... “ This Anthony Gordon fella, never seen him but he’s getting rave reports, why isn’t he in the first team?”

Dobbin is very highly thought of. More so than even Simms. Looks a really promising player.
Without knowing his stats it appears to me that Dobbin has had more u18 game time as a Schoolboy than even AnthonyGordon at the same age, certainly well ahead of Simms at 16. And has played for England u16 recently , again something Simms didn’t. He’s closer to a Gordon than a Simms , looks quite slight , but heh he’s 16 and what impresses me most when I put together the bits I’ve seen of him is his footballing brain , he has the ability to pick out the best pass or best option. He made the three goals for Simms’ hat trick a few weeks ago , the first of the two hattricks , against WBA I think, but the club tend to play down the exploits of any Schoolboy, quite rightly. No doubt he’ll have a few ups and downs in the next year but as you say lots of promise there.

The fact they are playing him in the 10, ahead of Hunt and Carroll is indicative of how they view him as well mate.

What I'd also say, is being an under 16 and getting regular game time in this under 18's is very telling, it is the 3/4th best team in the Northern section so is a very decent team. From an attacking viewpoint it's probably the best in our section and arguably the country. He's well thought of.

Looks like Astley really lost his player for the 1-1. Hopefully a good learning experience for him.
It's interesting that Gibson stands over the free kick too. Is his technique that good or is he simply the only left footer in the team to use as the decoy there? I seem to remember that he's taken corner kicks before.

Yep , was going to post similar re Astley . He tracked him inside but the guy had the jump on him. The thing I noticed though was that he just stood there afterwards facing the goal , not moving taking it in for what seemed like ages, no dismissive shrug of the shoulders and move on. He knew he’d been beaten to the ball , hard to know what was going on in his head, but I’m hoping his attitude was one of disappointment and learning from it. Astley has been a dominant defender in his age group over the last few years both for us and Wales youth teams, now he’s playing against older, smarter opponents having moved up the age groups early for both us and Wales. Exposure like this is just what he needs , make mistakes and learn from them.

Well on paper we’re clearly the strongest team left in . We’ve beaten Blackburn 3 times, drawn once, drawn and beaten Swansea , but we do seem to make hard work of disposing of “ weaker” teams and don’t seem to be able to score the goals to make a game safe. Leeds/ Newcastle are in lower leagues than us but wouldn’t underestimate them as Newcastle could be promoted from Division 2 and Leeds are top of the North Section one Division further down.
