Everton Youth Teams Thread

Is anyone else surprised at the lack of recruitment below first team level so far under Brands? I know that previously there has been a separate budget for U23 recruitment but apart from Virginia there hasn't been much activity in that respect over the last few windows. Has responsibility for that been taken away from Unsworth/Hoyland who seemed to have some autonomy before?
Yeah I’ve been a bit surprised. We’ve got 6 or7 moving up from u18 but have let more than that go, plus the ones going on loan with potentially Feeney, Hornby and Evans maybe still to go so I was expecting some incomings . It does appear that Unsworth/Hoyland have been restricted a bit , Unsworth certainly was involved in signing DCL and Sambou but don’t recall anybody specific in recent years, not sure about Boris Mathis or Markelo. As mightymoyes says though, we did become a bit bloated at U23s . And last years team had a number of players we’d brought in , Virginia, Foulds, Gibson, Markelo, Adeniran, Bowler, Sambou, Hornby when he was 14.
It’s a difficult balance bringing in U23s , if they are decent then they will cost a lot and be looking for first team games, any younger and it’s a risk or maybe an u18 product. But it is an area where I’d expect the Brands influence to start showing .

....good point (although the ban will impact). Walsh had a network of scouts with the aim of finding 6 youngsters per season to bring in. The strategy has worked, so it is a surprise none have come in at U23 level this summer. Perhaps the view is the squad needs trimming.

Arent we banned from signing players to the academy?

Haha, no . It would seem likely for Hornby, Evans is supposedly available for free so we could cancel his contract I think making him a free agent, Feeney could go abroad or sadly to a League 1 club - I would hope for better for him.
Given that the club have announced the Feeney/Hornby situation, not sure about Evans, then we should be actively managing it.

Whats the score with the likes of Hornby, Feeney, Gordon, Markelo, Adenerin, Baningime.
Pretty obvious these lads have proved themselves at u23 level and are still young enough not to end up like pennington or mcaleny etc (still playing u23 footy at the age of 30).
With the Championship window closed not sure going low enough to league 1 is of any benefit, are the club going to kerp them around again?
Letting these young lads down if so

I would keep Gordon for u23 the rest need loaned out. Baningime is probably in need of games so will probably be kept but the other 4 definitely need to experience senior football even if it is just league 1. Could always put a recall clause in and if they need moved up a level find them a different club in January. I also think Foulds needs to go on loan somewhere. This season needs to be about finding players for the first team not winning the league.
