Everton Youth Teams Thread

Whats the score with the likes of Hornby, Feeney, Gordon, Markelo, Adenerin, Baningime.
Pretty obvious these lads have proved themselves at u23 level and are still young enough not to end up like pennington or mcaleny etc (still playing u23 footy at the age of 30).
With the Championship window closed not sure going low enough to league 1 is of any benefit, are the club going to kerp them around again?
Letting these young lads down if so

i wouldnt say hornby has even proven himself at u23 level yet, no different from the player at u18 level unfortunately.

Its always intriguing seeing the first u18 squad of the season and if any new Scholars are included . From that it looks like 4 new Scholars starting with another 5 on the bench , that’s fantastic. And I’m pretty sure that “Welsh” is actually Reece Welch , a 15 year old schoolboy and England u16 defender who’s not 16 til September so will be in next years batch. If these youngsters can hold their own it will be very promising for the future.

Are these scholars from the age group that is supposed to be a bit special?. I lose track. I think they were U12 or U13 a couple of seasons ago.

Yeah supposedly our u15/16 were a bit special in previous seasons , always hard to tell and as you say you lose track. To have 5 15/16 year olds starting the first game is good, last season it was 3 if I remember right, Astley, Hunt, Carroll with Hughes joining them later. Add the five 1st years on the bench , plus a couple we’ve supposedly signed but nobody knows where they are and we’re not far offa full team of 16s playing u18s. Of course we only need 2or 3 to be pushing on , we won’t get 10 first teamers out of them.

Another factor was that last season we only took on 9 outfielders. One of them , Neves, then left , the three already mentioned are usually with the U23s , and the remaining 5 played Saturday. So more opportunities for 1st years , and we’ve still to see how good Hosie, Anderson and Max Thompson are so it’ll be an interesting season as ever.

I wonder if a big part of the ages dropping for the U18's has to do with Brands taking control over the academy now. I just hope the U23's are equally as young as the likes of City.

I think we’ll know more when this transfer window close if a few more loans have occurred. It’s intriguing that Brands hasn’t been openly involved in getting signings in at this level this summer. City have paid £4 mill for a 16 year old from WBA, got a 14 yr old from Villa , I know we cant sign their likes, United just got a kid from Monaco , and Chelsea are finally seeing their vast investment in their Academy coming through albeit maybe forced on them. I think we’re all anticipating maybe a “Brands Revolution” at the Academy over the coming years.

Did someone not post in here we’d signed a few kids?
