Everton Youth Teams Thread

Was he good the first half of the season?
Nobody said he was. But you focused on the time he wasn't good and I focused on the time he was good. That is literally the difference between cup half full and half empty. But it's lost on you mate. No worries.

Anyway let's leave it there. It's a pointless discussion because we actually agree on the lad in that he was anonymous first half of the season and impressive second half of the season.

It's stupid posts like this why I put you on ignore.

Feeney has played at this level for 4/5 years. He has captained the team for 2. He will progress no further by continuing to play at this level and has probably already stagnated to the point where he has dropped down the pecking order behind Gibson.

Nymzee was right to suggest give him a run out with the first team to test him. That's exactly what the kid needs. And right now the club need to make a decision on whether he still has a chance of playing for us. If we think he has, then loan him out for a season and see how does. If not, then sell him. The last thing we should be doing is playing him in the U23s which is not only stagnating him but also the younger players waiting to step up.

I don't know whether you've just popped in here to wind people up the wrong way, which is what you normally do with me and why I put you on ignore. But there are hundreds of other threads on here for you to do that.
Yes I think you’ve got it right over Feeney, a good player but, as you say, he now needs to move up to another level to see how he progresses, I think he has a very good chance of making a good living as a footballer, it is up to himself at what level he succeeds, for me he is in the Pennington or Browning class, but he definitely has to move away from playing U23’s football.

Only if you’re looking at today’s goal celebrations and comparing him with Tyler Onyango who’s grown a foot in the summer and is now 7 foot 6 ins. Astley s only 17 he’s still growing though he may never be as big as Maguire or Van Dyck he’ll likely be the same size as Stones.
Might have picked the wrong sport

He is only 20? A CB needs time to develop and has time to do that in the U23s before being thrown into first team football.

....yep, we had a chat about Astley last season and wondered if his size would make him better suited to be a RB. He’s not small like John but he’s not in the same size range as Gibson.
I’m still convinced that with his skill set, and the way he reads the game Astley will make it as a CB. He’s a far better defensive right back than John, but John is a faster,superior attacker and I suspect will therefore be a better full back than Astley . It’s easier to train defensive qualities than produce beat your man type speed which Astley doesn’t appear to have and John does.
Kevin Ratcliffe was “only” 5 foot 11ins, and Astley looks about that now has been playing u 23s since he was 16 so at times he does appear smaller than the older players he’s with, but looks a normal size for a 17 yr old.

Yes understand that Ozy, but the U23’s offer no challenge to his ability, he’s outgrown it and it’s doubtful if he will get a chance in the premier league with Everton ( at the moment) so playing in a lower league team will be better for him now,playing against men is a bigger and better challenge for him now.

Stuck that Dutch Fox Sports 1 channel on again but it's like midway through some random league game? Anyone know if it's switched channels?

@Ring master
It looks like Everton's 2nd game v Anderlecht is not been televised, I am just guessing here as the Fox TV guide only has the one game that kicked off 10mins earlier than everton are due to,so have a feeling they may only have cameras set up for main pitch,Inter milan game is Live on Fox sports though at 12.10pm,watching on tv and it has the other otten game on at min Inter milan v Red Bull-2mins into it
