Everton Youth Teams Thread

People seem to have a very, very unrealistic expectation of what a premier league academy side will produce for the 1st team.
We'd all love a 1st team full of academy products but it's just not going to happen in England anymore with the vast amounts of money pumped into 1st team squads. It's not like the Netherlands or France.
If we got 1 player every 3 years I would be happy.
That way over a period of 12 years (20-32 ) you would have 4 academy players in your squad of 17/18
However we are well short of that at the moment

every team just buys young players from other clubs now anyway

its its own black market

the ethos is to just nick a player another club has developed

chelsea have been doing it for years

liverpool as well - they nabbed sterling from qpr when he was 15

f the academy was just fine we would have players coming through to the first team.
As it is we have davies ,who has stagnated and gibson who is there by necessity rather than choice.
I don't consider DCL as an Academy product.
I don't know the numbers(I am sure some poster will have the stats) but for all the talk of how we give youngsters a chance I am sure we are well down the list number wise of how many academy products we have in our first team squad
As I said ,the academy is not fine,
Its fine if winning the PL 2 is our ambition ,but if our ambition is to produce regular first team gametime for the youngsters than its failing badly
I wouldn't count Gibson as an Academy product either tbh.
I'm sure over the last couple of years there have been tables produced which show the number of minutes played by youth/english players and we are normally fairly near the top. But it's not always a fair comparison. It's always going to be tougher to get in our first team than somewhere like Bournmouth, or Sheffield Utd. Then again, on the flipside you'd like to think we'd produce better talent, so it's difficult to judge.

I think that finding youngsters that will become Premiership players is far more difficult than some people believe.
If you look at all Premiership clubs I think our record is as good as any. We must also remember that Premiership clubs cannot just bring young players into their team and let them learn on the job, the stakes are too high for that. Most players are loaned out to get experience and will come back after they have learned their trade in a less pressurised enviornment.
We have Kenny, Dowell, Bowler and Broadhead on loan who have a chance of coming back to play for us. We have young Gibson who looks a talent and also we have Davies,DCL and Holgate.

We would all love to see another Rooney coming through, but he is nearly thirty four now and I don't think any young player nearly as talented has been found by any English club since.

I think we also need to redefine our ideas about what is an academy graduate.
We see so many players now moving clubs at sixteen , seventeen or eighteen years old who will be ready to step up, if good enough, within a year or two.

Is are ban over this summer so we can sign youth team players from clubs in england
No the ban was only give out in nov 2018-it was 2 year ban,so think it may go till august next year-The ban will prevent Everton from registering players aged between 10 and 18, who have been registered at another Premier League or EFL club.

....I’m probably stating the obvious, but I think he’s the forward they rate most.

hope hes on the bench at least on a few occasions this season, davies is the only other one from the academy currently involved with 1st team.
think utd are the only team ahead of us with a academy player in 1st team squad for more matches in a row.
edit
though utds dates back to 1937 and ours is only to 2001 so bit of a difference!! lol

It’s an interesting balance. Like others on here I roll my eyes when people suggest Hornby/Simms or whomever should be chucked into the first team as “ he might be a Rashford and we won’t know until we try”. I think Gordon has still got a bit more developing to do but I also get a gut feeling that we’d see the best of him with better, more experienced players around him . He hasn’t got the strength and power of DCL but he’s got an instinctive footballing brain. I too am hoping he gets bench time this season , but am happy enough if he keeps on training with the first team .

Ignoring the fact that Hornby is a terrible player.
