Everton Youth Teams Thread

Well he is free to talk to foreign clubs in 4 months time where we could lose him for nothing after paying about £5mill for him.

Assuming if he's that highly rated he would have been offered a deal months ago, so looks like its more stalling on his side.
We paid just under a £M for him rising to £6M if he comes through to playing for England, he is well thought of at the club, more so than Feeney and Foulds, he played and scored for the first team in the close season so I’m sure another better contract will be offered to him very shortly.

There is no indication of that though. I expect its being worked on at the minute

....the truth is we don’t know and it would be good to get clarity on this.

THE RESULT PUT US 5TH 2 POINTS OFF TOP PLACE AFTER 4 GAMES

Saints report

Southampton’s youngsters lost out 8-2 to Premier League 2 title holders Everton on a particularly disappointing evening at Southport FC’s Pure Stadium, having initially taken a two-goal lead.
Saints wrestled control of the tie early on, finding themselves two goals to the good after 32 minutes played, but it wasn’t to last after an Everton resurgence caught Radhi Jaïdi’s side off-guard in the second period.

The visitors, fielding a particularly young side after first-team call-ups, were perhaps a little naive defensively, despite dominating large passages of play - particularly in the first 45.

The hosts scored six second-half goals to convincingly seal the three points, and move up to fourth in the Premier League 2 table, while Saints stay rooted in ninth.

The deadlock was broken in the 23rd minute when defender Christoph Klarer met Jack Turner’s in-swinging corner, and deftly flicked the ball goalward, using the pace on the delivery to send it past Harry Tyrer.

Saints looked to be cruising midway through the half, when Marcus Barnes capitalised on some dogged work from Jake Vokins, as the ball broke lose in the area, allowing the forward to roll gleefully into an empty net.

But a quick-fire double from Everton wideman Anthony Gordon meant that all Saints’ good work was undone within two first-half minutes.

The winger, well found by Dennis Adeniran, put the finishing touch on a smart move in the 35th minute, curling past Jack Bycroft from the edge of the area, before converting from the spot a mere 90 seconds later.

Saints then suffered another blow shortly after the restart. Kayne Ramsay afforded Gordon yet another chance from the penalty spot, but this time it rattled the post and was consequently turned wide by Nathangelo Markelo on the rebound.

The respite didn’t last long, though. Defender Matthew Foulds headed the hosts in front on the hour mark, converting Evans’s corner, before a defensive mix up led to a golden chance for Harry Charley, which he side-footed past Bycroft.

Full-back Alex Denny added a fifth in the 70th minute, turning home a goalmouth scramble from a corner, before striker Evans and captain Morgan Feeney put the gloss on the tie from an Everton perspective, finding the net in the 78th and 84th minutes respectively.

Substitute Manasse Mampala compounded Saints’ frustration four minutes from time, completing the scoring with Everton’s eighth of the night.

From Saints site

"The visitors, fielding a particularly young side after first-team call-ups".

This is what we should be doing. But hey, at least we won 8-2
Yes we should. The whole thing is a complete joke. Last two years especially. We are starting a 22 year old player without an official contract in these matches. That is the definition of insanity.

Despite us scoring for fun,Unsworth did not even bring simms on as one of the 3 subs,Simms is not getting many Mins so far

He's done this before Unsworth, he'll be working him hard until he gets to a level where he thinks he's ready. Done it with Bowler and it clicked end of last season. I think he didn't play Gordon as much as we thought he would last season as well.

Whether it's right or wrong way is up for debate. But he demands a lot (and let's be honest whatever he demands it seems to work as 2 Pl titles says it does)

Wouldn't surprise me to see Simms start to get a lot more minutes as Autumn/Winter approaches

For now, it's Gordon's turn who is really stepping up to the plate and I wouldn't be surprised if he continues to see him on the bench against Sheffield Wednesday

A bit of reality and common sense here!
