Everton Youth Teams Thread

Wrecks my head this argument. Its U23s. Our average age is little of 20. We know some of the players are 23. That means others are much younger.

It's not Everton 19-and-not-a-minute-older-or-younger team.

Also, the transfer window is still open for another month. This is obviously a way of playing these players and putting them in the shop window.

Either that, or I suppose we could play them vs spurs instead.

Yep , the oldest three will be loaned or sold, Connolly, Broadhead, Bowler and likely at least one of Beni and Adeniran will be loaned/sold, a bit of a pointless argument so early in the season .
This actually looks quite young compared to other season starts , last season Martina and Charsley figured in early games. And that’s a young bench with a 17 and a 16 year olds . Somebody will be along to say it’s all Baines’s fault soon.
Having said that ,at every level I do wish we could finish off the RS by putting goals into the net .

Point is these older players are never going to make it here but are being given games. It should be the most promising youngsters being played.

Everton Under-23s boss David Unsworth said his team did not perform to the standard he expects after the young Blues were beaten 1-0 by Liverpool in their 2020/21 season opener on Sunday.

Jack Cain’s first-minute strike proved decisive at the Liverpool FC Academy, with the home side indebted to a host of superb saves by goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher.

Everton attackers Ellis Simms, Nathan Broadhead and Josh Bowler were all denied by the inspired Irish stopper.

Unsworth, however, said the Toffees' overall display was not good enough.

“It was very poor,” he said.

“I’m very disappointed. There was a lack of desire to go and win the game. The players have been left in no uncertain terms about how I feel.

“It’s the first competitive game after a long break and I would have expected a lot of fire in the performance. I didn’t see it.

“I’ve seen great things over the past six weeks [in pre-season]. But, I’ve said to the players, as professionals your performances are judged in games, and they didn’t deliver today.

“The commitment and desire weren’t there and that’s not right.”

The home side attacked for the outset and took the lead within the first 60 seconds – Cain sending a precise shot into the bottom corner from just inside the area.

Bowler almost had an equaliser on four minutes, the winger tricking his way into space before his drive forced the first in a series of fine stops from Kelleher.

Dennis Adeniran then almost got the Blues on level terms with a wonderful solo effort midway through the half.

The midfielder, operating from a wide left position, skilfully turned his marker 40 yards out before showcasing his power and speed to home in on goal. He shot hard and low but Kelleher was there again to make the save.

The game was being played at a relentless pace and soon after Liverpool thought they extended their lead. Luis Longstaff slotted home after a slick team move, but his strike was ruled out for offside.

Everton came again on 24 minutes, with Kelleher making a fabulous double-save to somehow maintain Liverpool’s advantage.

First, he made a splendid stop from Simms’ well-struck shot, before somehow scrambling across his line to keep out Nathan Broadhead’s close-range effort.

Simms again went close but hammered a shot just over the bar, while Liverpool winger Liam Millar saw a daisy-cutter from 20 yards well saved by Harry Tyrer.

Everton continued to create chances after the break.

Broadhead saw a curling shot go fractions wide, while Simms was denied again from point-blank range by Kelleher after being played through on goal by Broadhead.

Liverpool came closest to adding to their tally when Rhys Williams struck the post after the Blues failed to clear a corner delivery.

Asked whether he was confident his team would provide a strong response following the defeat, Everton boss Unsworth said: “I know they will.

“I absolutely guarantee it. Despite what I’ve said about the performance, we still should have won the game and created enough chances to do so.

“But we were very much below par today.

"You’ve got to be honest with young players, and that wasn’t acceptable. We’re hurting, I’m hurting, and we’ll try to put right what went wrong.”

He cant seem to make up his mind, that chelsea game months ago were we were so bad but he thought we were great lol

At least Astley was played at CB and not shunted over to RB. Hopefully the older players get moved on for everyone's benefit. Adeniran is the only one of the older players I thought had a chance but him playing in this game suggests he's not going to make it either.

Attacking midfielder Charlie Whitaker has signed a first professional contract with Everton, penning a three-year deal until the end of June 2023.

Whitaker, who celebrated his 17th birthday on Wednesday, has made impressive progress throughout his time at Everton Academy.

The Yorkshire-born teenager joined the Club aged 12, having previously been with Blackburn Rovers.

He is currently part of Paul Tait’s Everton Under-18s side and headed the winner as the young Blues kicked off their U18 Premier League (North) season with a 2-1 victory over former club Blackburn last Saturday.

Whitaker predominantly plays in an advanced central midfield position but is also comfortable operating from either flank or as a striker.

Unsworth sounds naive and just plain stupid here.

Theres so much wrong with his comments i just dont know how to comprehend it.

Naming players who should be sold at end of the article as those he wants to loan...again...when theyre nowhere near good enough or will ever be good enough for the first team.

Very disappointing.

Great stuff, another given an early contract . I remember back in the day when we put names to “Goals of the season” Charlie Whitaker won the u13s award with a cracking shot from way outside the box. It looked like him winning this years u16s award with a stunning free kick too. From the little Ive seen of him he offers something different than others , a busy industrious player, winning the ball , carrying it forward, with good passing - more like Liam Walsh than Kieran Dowell if that makes sense, and scores goals too.
