Closer to home you only have to look at the League winning 2010-2011 team. Youth groups that dominate tend to be good groups for their ages, to be a real star you have to kick on and on every year until you become a star, like Barkley, Rooney and Rodwell (fate has gone against him with his injuries)
Fulham Under 18s 1 – 2 Everton Under 18s
1 Adam Davies - warming the bench at Sheff Wed?
2 Tyias Browning - Captain of the U21s, not hopeful he'll stay beyond 2-3 years
3 Luke Garbutt - Looks a standout in League One, not good enough for Everton
4 Jake Bidwell (c) - Standout in League One, not good enough for Everton
5 Eric Dier - Best of the group by a mile, regular appearances for Sporting Lisbon
6 Jordan Barrow - Last seen at Stalybridge, limited footballer
7 Conor McAleny - Looked the part in League One, never been properly tested at any level despite his age
8 Tom Donegan - Left for Fulham on a free, wasn't good enough for them, released
9 Ged Kinsella - Big knee injury, wasn't good enough for Everton, banned for steroid abuse
10 Anton Forrester - Always liked him more than Hallam Hope, released to Blackburn Rovers
11 Adam Thomas - Wasn't good enough, released and joined Stoke City
That was a very strong team for their age, missing John Lundstram and Hallam Hope too who were away with England I think. Means nothing on the grand scale of things if they peak aged 19.
