Everton Youth Teams Thread

Looking at the contract situation at the the end of the season there are 12 u23s out of contract 5 of these (Pennington, Connolly, Adeniran, Bowler and Broadhead) are older and will definitely be released. Of there other 7 I would release Hansen, Barrett, Ouzounidis and Carroll. I would give John and Anderson another year as the only other full back is Thierry Small. I would give Astley a 2 year contract but he needs to go somewhere on loan. Baningime and Markelo would have 1 year left I would try and sell if we can't get anything for them loan them out again.

In the u18s there are 14 2nd year scholars 8 of which have already got extensions. Of the other 6 I would try and keep Cannon and Higgins but would probably release the other 4.
I would expect similar. One concern, for me is being a bit light on defenders. Of the 6 U18s, 3 were defenders, 1 GK, and Liam Higgins played a few positions but had been a RB for both the 18s and 23s. So a lot of defensive cover with these boys. But when you factor in Hagan and Kristensen not holding down a place at 18s. How will the new back lines look?
Hopefully we have a good crop of defenders from the U16s who will be first year scholars next season

That's why I would keep John, Astley and Anderson. Higgins would be kept as a right back possibility. I would also have Welch and Small in the u23s. Hagan and Kristiensen would initially start as back up and hopefully they would improve enough to come into the team.

Seems Iversen is a Pineapple on pizza fan-that will please some on here lol

Everton u23s are back in action tomorrow at midday [Friday]- this time away at Spurs u23s [Games always seem to be midday ko between us at spurs for whatever reason]. as far as i can tell and ive never actually seen spurs show a game, but it wont be on TV etc by looks of it, Everton will go 2nd with win While anything other than defeat for spurs puts them top

In fairness, we have good defenders at under 18 level. Of Hagan and Kristensen you mention there is also Welch too plus whoever is coming up next year.

I think the point he was making about defenders is that both Hagan and Kristensen haven’t featured much at u18 this season . Both have pro contracts that cover next season when they move up to U23s , so they are going to have to prove themselves at that level . They have good size and physicality for their age, and Hagan played for England youth a few years ago but they’ve not really made their mark at u18. There’s Dylan Thompson at CB but it’s hard to know if he’s done enough to get a contract , and hard to pick out any other defenders except Small and Welch who could play in the U23s next season , maybe Eli Campbell from this years intake.

It‘ll be interesting to see how this is addressed next season, probably some older players retained, some u18s will be moved up and maybe a purchase or two , particularly to cover right back.

Right back is definitely a position that needs recruitment

Friday's fixture at Tottenham Hotspur has been postponed due to severe weather conditions. A new date for the match will be confirmed in due course.

is the weather bad in London still @Yid4life or you have no undersoil heating on training pitches etc

Spot on, that was the point i was trying to make. Interesting on Dylan Thompson. I think he gained the most game time of all the defenders last season, and holding a place down ahead of Hagan and Kristensen who were on their pros. Will be interesting to see what decision they make on him.
With Eli and Mallon being the only recognised defenders for the next U18 season, as you say hopefully the U16 crop is strong and a couple of buys is required.

Currently 6th placed Everton u18s have the chance to move up one place when they play away to Leeds u18s, Leeds are bottom and have one win the whole season which was the 1st week of october, they have 8 defeats from last 9
