Everton Youth Teams Thread

Not sure if it has been discussed but isnt it strange Price and Welch made the bench although they havent featured for the U23's ? On the other hand there are other U23 regulars being totally overlooked like Iversen, Hughes Ouzounidis, even Small.
Does send a wrong message or Price/Welch should have made the step up to the U23's sooner.

They have played for the U23's. Iversen is also injured.

Price and Welch have featured for the 23s mate.

Chelsea or Everton will play West Brom in the Quarter Finals of The Youth Cup, so the chance of a repeat of the 2019 Q/F between West Brom and Everton is still on

Final score spurs 0 West Brom 5 [ spurs went down to 10men on 45mins but were 1 down anyway, West Brom got 2 more 2nd half goals before they then went down to 10 in last 10mins before scoring 2 more late goals]

down to the bare bones for the U23's as well then lol. Onyango out, Iversen out, Astley out. Maybe some others that we are probably not renewing not picked for the 1st team. So we have U18's on the bench lol

No they played for the U23’s before those got injured. We’ve promoted lots of U18’s to the U23’s this season. Price has started regularly of late for them. Nothing bare bones about it we’re just using younger players.

I make it 11 outfield u18s have featured for the U23s so far this season: Small, Welch, Mallon; Warrington, Price; Onyango, Whitaker , Butterfield; Cannon, Kouyate, Dobbin. Quite a transformation from two years ago when only Gordon and Simms got some limited time. Maybe only McAlister and Campbell missing from current u18 regulars , not sure if we’re treating Garcia very carefully or if he’s picked up another knock.

I see Kyle John has been offered a further contract, and the same words are being used as for Astley “ with a view to going on loan next season” . It’s taken a couple of seasons but the restructuring of the U18/23 pathway is almost complete.

I'll be honest, I don't see the benefit for either the club or Astley for signing a new contract with the pathway laid out like this. I like him but he's currently 7th choice centre half with Welch coming through and possibly overtaking him soon. I would understand it from our point of view if we were to be using him as we have Ozounidis as a senior centre half in the 23s but not for a loan. We do have to field a 23s side after all.

So we loan him out to a league 1 club next season and he comes back and then likely gets released or sent back on loan after that? What purpose does it serve other than kicking the can down the road? I can understand John getting a new contract as our depth at RB is barebones but at centre half that's not an issue.Obviously the club would want a fee for him which is why we are extending and maybe it earns us a million or two but I can't see much more, City only got 2 for Tosin. Maybe I am just not as high on his potential but I think he should be looking at leaving rather than waiting like Feeney did because he's at least 2 more seasons away from a chance at the first team. And that's assuming he has 2 great loans.

Or he goes out on loan, plays well and we sell him for a fee greater than any development fee we'd receive for him moving this Summer?

Yeh I'm really happy with how things have changed since Brands arrived.

probably still waiting on Astley having a late growth spurt too which would make all the difference to his hopes of being a good centreback

I mean I guess? That's definitely best case Scenario but I'm not sure how much more we stand to gain. Lewis Gibson had a good loan at Fleetwood last season and I don't think clubs were queuing up for him, then he goes to Reading and his stock has fallen again. I'm not sure the development fee+ add ons would be substantially less than a fee we would get after a good loan + wages. It would require back to back good loans and that's by no means a certainty. And I'm still not sure how Astley benefits in all this rather than going to club that will want him for footballing reasons rather than financial

It's up to Astley to decide that though isn't it? I'm with you by the way, keeping him and loaning him out - probably to league one at best - seems odd to me, but the club can only make the offer to the player. If he wants to sign the deal that's his choice, we won't be forcing him to do anything he doesn't want to do.

I'm glad we look like we are keeping Astley and John. They both have potential its just about getting some experience at the right club I would go League 1 with both as the ones to this level have generally been more successful.
