Everton Youth Teams Thread

There does appear to have been a noticeable strategy at under 18's, and indeed at under 23's to play markedly younger teams every week. It's good to see really. Apparently 6 under 16's involved today for the 18s which is almost unheard of at this stage of the season over the last 5 years, and I make it 5 under 18s in the 23's.

Brands doing apparently, it's truly refreshing.

Paul Tait is quoted as saying he is currently working almost exclusively with the 1st year Scholars , and u16s I guess, as the 2nd year Scholars are with the u23s . There will be some interchange I’m sure e.g. Mallon at u18 today , and likely there’ll be some 1st years/u16 playing at U23s, but great to see this strategy being put into place.

….it’s so much more of a test even when you play a year above. I played lots of representative & most friendlies were against older lads. I’m all for this strategy, just surprised it’s not the norm.

Our U23 team invariably struggle in competitions involving open-age teams or sides that play regularly against open-age opposition.

Yes mate.

I remember I actually captained the under 18s of my local semi pro team as an under 17 (partially down to me loving the sound of my voice both doubt as people may have noticed haha) but that was seen as a big honour. The lads who really kicked on were the 16s who were promoted up.

It was always a big goal of Everton under Ray Hall. We seemed to move away from it, but I'm glad we have moved back to it. You have to avoid letting people become comfortable.

Start as you mean to go on for me, if John is not around Mallon should be u23 right back, and if injury free Quintyne u18 RB.Sometimes though it takes until, loans are finalised to sort itself out.

Last season we saw a bit of mismanagement till January when we could shift the older people. Plus we don't know the U18 side. Maybe we had injuries.
