Everton Youth Teams Thread

Perhaps move Isaac Price to train with first team for the rest of season? The lad has unbelievable stamina and seems the epitome of the phrase "box to box midfielder". He seems a brave lad in that he's never afraid of making himself available and receiving the ball. He can pick a pass and tackles well. But above all he's great at pressing the opposition which is what we are so lacking in central midfield. With better coaching he could hopefully be a real talent and let's face it the lack of physicality in the first team central midfield at the moment is embarrassing.

His quality isn't there.

From last night’s game you could apply that to all of them except perhaps Dobbin, who showed glimpses of quality , one quality strike from Cannon and some steadfast defending from Astley. In reality, every few months someone pops in here and asks “ Who‘s ready for the first team ? “ and there’s general agreement of “ nobody “ , it’s been that way for years .
On the other hand training with the first team is the way they can improve and apparently catch Lampard’s eye.

Yeh not saying he's wank and training with better players helps but I don't know if there's much end game to that decision. We are light in central midfield so maybe.

Yeah at times I see glimpses from our young midfielders like Price, Onyango, Warrington, Butterfield but nothing sustained and convincing that says the “ wow” factor is there . Im still hopefull of Metcalfe getting u23 games soon .

They've all got a career in the game but even Onyango, whom I love, I still don't know if he's quite got it to play for Everton.

If we get relegated? Whole other story for some of these lads.

hopefully okoronko again too
I was surprised Okoronkwo wasn’t on the bench last night, there were no other attackers hence Cannon/Dobbin played full 90 mins. At 17 there’s an argument that both him and Metcalfe are not ready , same for our two u18 young full backs . Fair enough , but now is the time to prepare them for next season and let’s see if they are good enough, we’ve nothing to lose .

yeh there doesnt really seem to be anyone else from the u18s making a case. cannon has been fairly poor so would definitely like to see okoronko get more opportunites in the next 3 months.

Harsh to rush to judgement on an 18 year old. But quality on the ball isn't everything - look at Gomes. All teams need physicality and this is a quality in itself. I've watched a few games this year and been amazed by the runs Price makes at pace late on in the games and then makes another run with very little recovery time. For me, him and Whittaker are the best prospects, with Mills not far behind.

Steady now, if you think Price is a better prospect than Mills I can't help you.

There's always something to lose if you're asking players to step up before they're ready. In fact, if you already know they're not ready there's a lot more to lose than there is to gain. It's a pretty young side now as it is, I think there were 5 or 6 18 year olds in the side the other night, there's no need to go overboard with the changes just for the sake of it.
