Everton Youth Teams Thread

Great goal
Made a great run from wide going past a couple of defenders and putting it right into the far corner of the net, Dobbin looks a very good player although the rest of the team might be making look that good, nothing looks like it comes naturally to them everything seems so laboured in most things that they do, simple passes go astray, even running seems an effort for them they look so unfit, bleedin’ terrible to watch that’s for sure.

If one of them makes it I couldn’t care less how the rest of them look. In an ideal world we’d have a set up like Chelsea but we haven’t, and one success from every group would be fine to be honest.

There appears to have been a shift over the last 12 months to this as well, which is good. For a time, there seemed to be a focus on results for the 23s. That the priority was having a decent group of solid players but nobody spectacular. If we can shove players through, that's the most important thing.

Very frustrating and embarassing to watch - totally outplayed by Brighton, those giants of youth team football. Watching Brighton players comfortable on the ball, not afraid to keep hold of it and then press as a team when out of possession,. Contrast that with Everton - players scared to hold on to the ball, defenders launching the ball from defence to attack with depressing regularity, individuals pressing but seldom as a group. And the microphone picking up the monotonous urgings of Unsworth "second ball, second ball, pick up the second ball!" That seems to be the sum total of his coaching. Surely this can't go on. Just how long has Unsworth been there now.

Pretty disrespectful to the work Brighton have put in over the last few years in the academy if I do say.

I don't watch youth games but that is pretty poor from Unsworth. I can remember reading comments from Paul Tait from 2-3 years ago saying they're going against the grain in that they're preparing young players to play direct football rather than possession based stuff. I'm no expert but maybe that indicates the club has taken a wrong turn somewhere in youth development. I can remember when Sheedy was in charge of the U18s they looked like they were playing some good stuff.

You can not put Tait in the same box as Unsworth his style of football is totally different, he is a progressive possession based coach did you not watch the youth team at Goodison this season?
Full of under 16/17 players playing with an aggressive press out of possession and an expansive attacking style in possession.
Do not get confused with our u23 low block [Poor language removed]!!
Listen to Anthony Gordon speak glowingly about Paul Tait and how he helped him progress through from u15/16/17/18 and he is not the only player, Halid Djanpata on the official site saying how the coach cares about the person not just the player also the new striker from Sunderland waxing lyrical about Tait. These are the traits of a modern progressive coach not Unsworth screaming about second balls!!
