Everton Youth Teams Thread

Football is business but it is still possible to have some decency and remember that we are talking about people. Often young people. Most clubs take care of their own. Wish them the best and try to help them on with their career.

Iversen has been out 16 months with a knee injury. After leaving friends and family behind when he moved abroad as a young boy to play football for Everton. He injured himself playing because he was playing for Everton.

To give him a short term contract so he can finish his rehabilitation and hopefully restart his career comes with very little cost and is something pretty much all clubs do. Not doing it would be embarrassing from a club like Everton.

It will surprise me if Iversen not within 12 months signs a better contract with a better club than what Rhys Hughes did.

And seriously. People need to stop focusing so much on the age of U21 players. Youth football is about development. Everton will not develop many first team players. And to develop any, they need a competitive U21 team. Last season Everton had the second youngest U23 team in PL2. But they did not have a competitive team.

If you play the 4 or 5 most talented teenagers it does not really matter if the rest of the players are 19, 22 or 35. Manchester United had a 36 year old Paul McShane as player/coach last season. Liverpool will have 33 year old Spearing as player/coach for U21 next season.

Everton U23 scored 33 league goals last season. Man City scored 65. West Ham scored 59. Crystal Palace scored 54. How are you supposed to develop young offensive players when your team dont have the ball and dont create chances?
In a nut shell this.
Every player in your youth set up dosent need to be a wonderkid.
You need to identify the ones that you believe have an opportunity to do well and build a platform for them to develop properly.
Wether thats keeping Ryan Astley to play alongside Reece Welch to help him with his positioning or communication.
As the post says, if we have a 30 goal a season kid up front but arent getting the ball to him as the rest of the team are developing themselves, thats negligance on the forward

Glad to see we've structured the youth teams to mirror the tactics of the first team ?????

Emilio Lawrence has the potential to be an outstanding talent, doubt it is Everton’s fault he is going elsewhere, he will have a lot of top clubs offering him a very good contract, I hope we get an outstanding compensation fee!!

Probably won't ever hear what it is, don't think what we got for Small came out. I think the Lawrence figure should be far more.

I think this may be a better deal for the agent than the player.
I don't understand young players leaving good premiership and championship clubs to simply follow the money elsewhere.

If Lawrence, Small or any other player is good enough they will come through in time and maybe far quicker than at a club like City where they are constantly buying the best talent in the world to come straight into their team.

Yes the agents have a lot to do with these moves but if the kid and his parents are happy with the move then there is nothing Everton can do about it, although I agree with you big money off a high flying club won’t always guarantee a successful career for the youngsters.

It just surprises me when I see players leave their parent club... not just Everton.

Lawrence, if he continues to develop, could be a premiership player in two seasons at Everton. That is unlikely at City because the pathway to the first team is just so difficult.

I haven’t seen that much of Lawrence, just enough to see he’s got pace , ability , scores with both feet. By comparison, I watched Dobbin at a similar age playing and scoring two goals for England u16, he stood out for me more than Lawrence has done. Similarly , Dobbin was highly rated outside Everton, in the past 12 months I haven’t seen others rate Lawrence as highly.

Just my view. Lawrence is a loss, one of the best young players we had at u16 , but I’ve not heard him talked about as highly as other 16 year olds that the likes of City, Chelsea and others already have .

Lawrence was spoken about as the best player in that group. However he fell behind Sheriff last season who played more, and Ebere is also very highly rated. I think they are all similar ability. Lawrence may be higher ceiling, but Sheriff looks better currently.

Samuel Smith looked the standout in youth cup games I saw.

It's a loss losing Emilio, but he wasnt a regular in the England under 16 set up quite recently.

…the odds are stacked against him being a top flight footballer even if he stays. It’s especially the case for forwards because the skill set and physicality are more difficult to attain.

A move now with a lucrative signing fee and salary could at least make him a wealthy young man.

He started at City and was poached by Everton.

Lawrence is also eligible for Scotland as that Fabrizio Romano tweet shows but he didn't go to the UEFA U17 tournament they qualified for either. And I don't think he was injured.o_O
