….am I right in thinking Morecambe play open-age players? Good experience if so.

Yeah I believe so , it’s a proper competition for these clubs , they’ll certainly take it seriously but I don’t know how many first teamers they had .

I did notice that our ex Academy forward Kieran Philips was playing for Morecambe, he had a horrendous double knee fracture at 16 which kept him out for 2 1/2 years. We gave him an extra year at U18 , and he moved to Huddersfield eventually, Morecambe on loan now. Good to see him making a career in the lower leagues.

Gotta ask, but who sanctioned spending actual money on Billy Crellin? Is he related to someone at the club?
Their third goal…… Joe Anderson is standing over Crellin , hands by his side, palms open , shrugging and seems to be saying “ Wtf was that?”

Mind you Crellin probably gave Anderson some stick for the pass that set up their first goal.

They do but it's complicated.

The rules state:

7.3 Each EFL Club shall play its Full Available Strength in and during all Matches.
Full Available Strength’ means the EFL Club must include at least four Qualifying Players in the ten outfield Players named in the starting eleven on the Team Sheet.
7.4 Qualifying Player means any Player who:

7.4.1 had started the immediately preceding First Team Fixture (as defined below);

7.4.2 subsequently starts the immediately following First Team Fixture;

7.4.3 is in the list of ten Players at the Club with the highest number of starting appearances in First Team Fixtures in the same Season;

7.4.4 has made forty or more starting appearances in First Team Fixtures or international equivalents (and not limited to the same Club or Season); or

7.4.5 is on standard loan from a Premier League Club or any EFL Club operating a Category One Academy.

Hope that's clear! I think they have to play at least 4 'qualifying' players, but can pick more if they choose.

So although we lost on penalties we take a point from last night's game. Morecambe get 2 points for winning the shoot-out.
yep, 1 point for the 3-3, and as ever like the last few years in the group stage they have a pen shoot out if level at 90mins, last night was our 4th defeat in 5 from shoot outs lol, the only surprise been we won one which was the below game

With the signing of James Garner it appears that Lewis Warrington will be allowed to go on loan. I’m not sure if it’s possible this window, 1/2 hour to go as I write , but perhaps more likely in January.

I also saw that Southampton picked up two more City youngsters today, this had been well signposted in recent days, brings them to four City youngsters brought in this window. It’s an interesting strategy , raiding the likes of City and Chelsea Academies , though they don’t come cheap. Saints have done it on the back of Joe Shields their head of senior recruitment who was one time head of City’s academy recruitment so knows who he’s buying.
