Everton Youth Teams Thread

Liege and Burnley is not massively high offers.

It's a shame to lose young players, but I'm not sure he suits Dyche's style at all and wouldnt have got games here.
I think he's kicked on and probably our best midfield prospect at the moment but I didn't think that prior to this season and with Warrington, Garner, Metcalfe, Onyango, Onana all around the same age there's a lot of young players to cram minutes in for without even getting into younger age groups.

Price looks dominant at youth levels but seems a bit of a project to develop into senior football. The club really hasn't done much to convince him to stay which is a concern and something that is somewhat inevitable with the constant manager churn and relegation battles.

If he doesn’t want to stay you can’t do anything about it. Sadly we’re a PL team and a lot of these kids suffer because of that. We also don’t really give them much incentive to stay these days in terms of a pathway. He’ll go, eventually Cannon will go, Branthwaite too probably.

If we get relegated this season it’ll be a whole other story.

Agree on the larger point but as far as pathways go Cannon might have the clearest one we could ever offer any kid. He has nothing in front of him, nothing behind him and we have no money to even sign anyone else.

Think he’s off his head if he goes to Liege on a permanent. He’ll get to play football but he’d achieve the same by signing for two years here and going on loan there.

And there’s a reason young PL players usually go down that road: PL teams (or any elite league teams) will generally want to give a chance to the players already on the books over new signings so it’s better to stay on the books and go on loan.

I admire the bravery in a way but it’s a far longer path for a Liege player to get to the PL than a PL player on loan at Liege. Given the “it’s only Belgium” factor he’ll need to be outstanding to work his way back to a top league- standout players do do it but if he’s anything less he risks getting stuck there. For me he should look at how well Cannon is doing on loan and rethink.

Because of tonight?
No I never saw tonight’s game butI have seen plenty of Everton Academy teams coached by Paul Tait and seen very little to be impressed with and his record in the FA youth cup is littered with failure, could be explained by the recruitment to be honest but also by the way the teams are set up, I think the club said they had interviewed plenty of people for the job Paul has been given but would to have seen some names to qualify that statement, there must be better coaches out there who can do better than this one.

There’s no easy way for a young player. The loan market is fraught with problems too. As a British national he’ll most likely always have a route back to British football, the only uncertainty being at what level. IMO you can’t knock a player for choosing the smoothest pathway to senior football. For me youngsters moving to rival PL clubs are more questionable.

What grates is the same bog standard knobheads get given chance after chance, while the youth get neglected. And thus they look elsewhere.
We brought in that Dan Micciche guy who has a proven track record of helping youngsters transition from under 21 to first team so hopefully it's a route we are looking to use a bit more. A club such as ourselves should be looking towards our youth setup for any players we can possibly use as potentially it saves us a fortune and it's 100% profit on the resale factor. We simply must create a better pathway for these lads, nobody (not even the coaches) knows what they will do unless they actually get a chance to show it. There are just too many stories in recent years of young lads of differing ages walking away from the club because they don't see a future here.

Yeah, maybe I just think him and his people are being shortsighted when it comes to his pathway at Everton: Doucoure and Gana are the wrong side of 30 and are unlikely to be renewed beyond their expiry in 2024, Davies expires this summer and is unlikely to be renewed, Iwobi expires 2024 and hasn’t yet renewed, Onana will likely move on for a profit this summer or next.

If he bides his time and proves himself with a one year loan that’s a whole premier league midfield that’s potentially opening up for him in summer 24. Whereas if he goes to Liege given the “only Belgium” factor he probably needs two or three really good seasons, and possibly a move in between, before an equivalent team from a top league is looking at him.

You have to say that Sherif is better than Simms at the same age, so the potential to progress is there if he’s got the right attitude . I’m always intrigued by their comments on the coaches , while they’re never going to say “ my coach is crap”, it’s interesting to read what they’re working on and try to pick up something about the player’s attitude. So far so good with him .
