I know it's highly unlikely but would love to know why we cannot fill the subs bench tonight
Realistically for me only at a push would okoronkwo the only player likely to make the first team benchGood job there's no relegation because this 21s cohort might not win a game all season
It’s hard to disagree with that. At 16 both Dixon and Metcalfe looked promising , but neither have developed as I’d hoped , although injuries have played their part. Are we just not developing them properly or are they not good enough to start with ? It’s always hard to tell , but neither of them featured in any England youth teams, usually a marker , so maybe they’ve stood out in some poor age groups .Realistically for me only at a push would okoronkwo the only player likely to make the first team bench
Metcalfe definitely hasn't kicked on since his injury which is a shame certainly looked good before the injuryIt’s hard to disagree with that. Think it's mainly due to being unlucky and the fact that the level required to make it is so high. Dixon wasn't helped by the fact that we kept re-signing lads like Mallon and John but he's had injury problems and barely stands out as is, Mcallister got given the nod at RB for pre season over him which shows where he's at. Metcalfe again unlucky with injuries but looks too slight, he might fill out but Price and Onyango both similar at same age. It’s hard to disagree with that. Always felt Onyango stood out because of his size and physicality at a younger ageThink it's mainly due to being unlucky and the fact that the level required to make it is so high. Ones I'm most concerned with are Welch, Dobbin and Onyango who actually got England apps but none of them look any better now than when they were 18
I remember watching an England team , u16 or17 , with them three in it, Dobbin scored two goals and looked way ahead of Welch and Onyango . It’s that extra physicality that’s seems to be missing at PL level for Dobbin, and for all of them actually. These days at least we are more likely to get some money for them , but with Welch the only one out on loan and that down in League 2 that may not be much unless Dobbin gets some game time.Think it's mainly due to being unlucky and the fact that the level required to make it is so high. Yeah the Rodwell thing of being massive to his peers will have helped him stand out but he does have a great engine and ability to cover ground when most kids are shattered by the 60th minute. Those types of players are useful in squads like Longstaff or Davies. He needs to develop on the ball but is really in risk of playing less than 1000 mins again this season as he will be 6th choice in the first team and also kept out the 21s squad because he's now a first teamer.Always felt Onyango stood out because of his size and physicality at a younger age
I'm still a Dobbin believer and think he's only 2 or 3 things added to his game away from being a useful member of the squad or being worth 20 million. He's still got time to come good but he isn't where I thought he'd be at this point from seeing him in the younger England squads.I remember watching an England team , u16 or17 , with them three in it, Dobbin scored two goals and looked way ahead of Welch and Onyango .
