On point 2 I don't think it's possible to recruit much better as it stands. We've had a rotten few years going from an academy ban to now not only having no budget but actively having to sell. We've actually got a good success rate of producing footballers......unfortunately a lot of them are to the standard where they will.make a career in the lower leagues.
Not sure how we change that tbh, first glance I think the standard of our coaching isn't good enough. 2nd point, we simply don't recruit good enough players and that's because we are competing with far better teams than us. 3rd and final point, can we refine our scouting system to improve it or os it just a case of point 2 and we are left with the dregs.
We sign a lot of kids when they're 8/9 years old and if they're an Evertonian, I'm sure at that age it gives us an advantage over the rs, City etc. So where do we go wrong? That then takes me back to point 1 and the quality (lack of) coaching.
The amount of square pegs in round holes that goes on is terrible. Constantly trying to shove players who aren't full backs in there because we are short. Players who aren't strikers playing up top and so on.
Just a mess from the outside looking in with no real visible progress on the horizon
I don't feel its whinging if there is potential for us to be producing better players, in fact in our position it's an absolute necessity

There's probably no way to (legally) improve recruitment much more other than blind luck or massively overpromoting above what youngsters are ready for. Anyone decent we have had recently has been pinched off us. The past few years we've had; Mo Ali Cho, England U16 when leaving us but wanted to go back to France and didnt like it here. Thierry Small, our youngest ever player and England U18 when leaving, appears to have a bad agent. Emilio Lawrence, now starting week in week out for City EDS when fit boyhood city fan. ISS England U17 captain now at Chelsea probably sold without his knowledge. That's without getting into Will Dickson and Isaac Smith at City who were on our books. Smith is definitely a blue as well. It's been retaining talent that's the issue rather than scouting. The club didn't do bad out of the lads they've sold either, Gordon will probably get England caps in the most talented England squad in 60 years.
The square pegs round holes I do see your point in particular LB, however losing two very high rated left backs both at 16/17 doesn't help much for planning. The two other lads either side of Small have gone for £20 million between them as well. Just so happens we weren't the team to profit from them. Right now I'm not too concerned with putting players in out of position right now because if we had anyone decent they'd be getting sold anyway. The bigger issue is when we block pathways for absolutely no reason like having all 3 of Dixon, Mallon and John on the books or signing the Oxford goalie.
I still don't think there's a player the club has necessarily failed with their development and could've went higher. Unlike a Gibson who just had awful injuries for example and there's not much the club could do.
'judge Sherif' . Sounds like a good Western about an ex-lawman turned hangman. I'd definitely watch it.All good points mate especially not having any kind of budget to be able to bring in talented players from other clubs.
tbf to Dixon he's had to jump straight up to the u21s probably a lot earlier than he thought he would because of Mallon and John injuries. Dixon is actually a player i like the look of, got a very good engine on him but a long way to go yet.
There's just a real chasm in quality in the u21 side. It's really hard to judge Sherif playing for the u21s as he's barely had a sniff of any service or a chance.

On the other hand Cat 2/3 academies look to replace their schoolboys at U13's and U15's with boys released from higher tier academies - we think of it like a waterfall. Best to start at and stay in at the highest level for as long as you can, then if you have to float down to the correct level. Higher tier academies have More contact time, better quality coaches, and pitting your learning against higher level of competition. At U13 my lad had 3 coaches in one year (Cat3), and cut coaching time down to 3hrs per week - nowhere near enough in my eyes. From experience most of the scholars and graduates from his level of academy end up on shadow schemes later on and the 'one' ends up on loan at below than national league level to see if they can compete in mens football, then if lucky they are in for a career of 12 month contracts. They really are staggering numbers.
It would imply you have more chance of a career in football joining a lower ranked academy and try and get genuine, competitive football earlier rather than a tier 1 academy where up to the age of 15 or 16 you're initially competing against potentially 100s of other kids.
Not sure where to put this, so in here it goes.
I’d assume Jack Patterson is too young to make NI u21s, so just Branthwaite in contention.…not sure what the last international U21 game we hosted but I remember taking my son to England v Portugal quite a few years ago. Ronaldo played and I think Peter Clarke and Franny Jeffers were in the England team alongside Joey Barton.
These are good games to attend.
