Everton Youth Teams Thread

None of them were good enough for Everton so I'm not sure what your point is. Doesnt matter if its an 18 year old Manesse Manpala or a 21 year old Charlsey neither were making it either way. Unless you can provide a youngster who's development he actually hindered by playing a 23 year old in front of then then this is pointless.

And that's ignoring the fact that tonight's 21s team (without Unsworth) is featuring a 35 year old, a 24 year old and 3 22 year olds lol
You really should be banned from posting on the youth thread as you’re clueless. Is Coleman going to play regularly for the 21’s then ? He’s just come back from 6 months out. And Virginia who was obviously getting a run out as well.

And youth football is about development not winning trophies, who cares we won a double while playing 50% of team being older age players. And it’s very difficult to bring through top talent, that doesn’t mean you play a 23 yr old who obviously isn’t good enough for the first team instead of playing an 17yr old who’s come up from the 18’s.

Unsworth was only interested in his own career and thinking by having success would get him a good job, he went to Oldham 😂 in the conference and got sacked inside a year

Coleman was excellent.
Chermiti drifted in and out
Dobbin looked dangerous but not enough end product

I thought Hunt played really well in centre midfield.
I don’t think Dobbin is ever going to be a prolific goalscorer, but I wonder if we can get more out of him. He has real pace , but he’s not an out n out winger who could replace Harrison/ McNeil. He reminds me of an old fashioned inside forward, replacing Doucoure and playing behind/alongside a striker may be his ultimate position. If so he’ll need to up his workrate and game involvement to satisfy Dyche but it could be possible.

I think there are benefits to playing these slightly older players, even if it is hindering there careers which are blatantly not going to be at the club (Astley, John for example)

Might not always be the case, but if you do have someone earmarked for a fast progression to the first team (i dont think we do but lets just pretend), in these under 21 games it may benefit them at 17/18 with a couple of lads in the side with Astley & Johns experience, Astley in particular gaining first team football at Accrington next season.

There are better ways of doing that obviously than spoiling a couple of lads careers for the sake of helping a younger player (although they are probably on better wages than what they would be if they left us).

I don’t expect the under 21’s to be full of 17/18yr olds. It was more a point of unsworth plying players 23/24 who were out of contact and it was common knowledge they would be leaving, the season in question we had nothing to play for 7/8 games left and Gordon, plus others were on the bench, Gordon had made his debut for the first team but couldn’t get a game for the 21’s

And unsworth would constantly try and shut up shop with 30mins to go if we were a goal up and take a forward off for a defender, don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad thing to do now and again and get the players used to be under pressure and seeing a game out, but he’d do it all the time

Gordon turned into a 45 million plus Champions league player who will get England caps lol it clearly didn't hurt him.

And it was nothing to do with unsworth as he was fast tracked into the first team,
look at the potential money lost though from not giving younger players game time, we spent money on a few youngsters who left for nothing, because they Weren’t coached or their development not handled by the academy director
