Everton Youth Teams Thread

Everton Under-18s will face Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup fourth round on Thursday 18 January at Walton Hall Park (7pm kick-off).

Leighton Baines' young Blues began their cup campaign under the lights at Goodison with an impressive 4-1 victory over Stockport County last month. Goals from Matthew Apter, George Morgan and a Martin Sherif brace ensured the Toffees progressed to the next stage of the competition.

Upcoming opponents Chelsea earned a 3-1 win at Leicester City in their third round tie, netting two second-half strikes to secure the victory.

Everton have won the prestigious FA Youth Cup three times - in 1965, 1984 and, most recently, 1998 - while also finishing runners-up on four occasions.

Ticket details for the tie against Chelsea, as well as information on a live stream for the match, will be announced on evertonfc.com in due course.

Does it matter that much for a goalkeeper?

Exposure to men's football and the harsh realities of lower league isn't a bad thing. I like the comment "There’s a lot going on - a lot more kicking, a lot more battling and scrapping"

He's going to get first team football and much better than sitting on the u21 bench.

Also opens up the pathway for Pickford and Lukjanciks, who both seem to be quite highly rated. At the very least I think it's interesting how we're approaching the goalkeeper loans. Tyrer, Leban and now Jensen all going out on loan to quite low levels. Evidence of a clear strategy at least, now we wait to see if it pays dividends.

The local team here FC Isle of Man play in the 9th tier of the pyramid. Not sure that gives a way through to the PL even if you are a keeper

Aaron Ramsdale spent some time at Worksop Town

Wigans goalkeeper Sam tickle also spent some time at Pilkington (level 10), Nantwich (Level 9) & Warrington Rylands (Level 8)

Its definitely not a method that hasn't been used for goalkeepers before!

It actually allows them to train all week with the club (whereas a loan higher up would mean them training with lesser coaches etc)
