Everton Youth Teams Thread

Maybe but Paul Tait has been there a good few years now and his teams have always played the same way. Leighton Baines was appointed without any previous experience has a coach.
He was appointed as a coach without any previous experience but thats normal and obviously everybody has to get a first job. He had been coaching in the academy for 2 years when he got the head coach job which is probably quite normal aswell at that level I'm not saying he's a good coach I don't know but on paper giving him the job is not that strange.

If you are talking about Paul Tait what was he doing before he was appointed as a coach, was he a player? After his spell as coach of the U18’s he was appointed the head of the Academy after an interview when it was stated by the club he was the best of the people interviewed, it wasn’t stated who interviewed him or who if any the other people where who went after the job. Being a sceptic I think it a case of a job for the boys same as Leighton’s was and they were given the job by our late Chairman.

….i remember watching Tait playing for our Academy. He’s a Newcastle lad, I think he was with the likes of Keith Southern and was living in Croxteth Park in digs. Traditional no9, he made a decent living out of the game playing for the likes of Bristol (I think).

Yes, I just checked his career he had a decent career scoring quite a few goals mostly in the lower leagues and non league nevertheless he did quite well. He has Eufa coaching badges and has been a coach at Everton since 2008, fifteen years, he is forty nine so he has done well financially out of being an Everton coach, despite that I have never been impressed by the style his team plays and it is mostly the same style. I still think the whole Academy could do with an overall change but that will have to wait while the top part of the club awaits it’s fate for the future.

It is not new coaches we need it is more better players. We have fallen behind in recruitment over the last 5 years and the running of the academy under Unsworth was a shambles and we are now picking up the pieces.
We used to compete with the top clubs in the north west but now we are fighting with teams in the championship and Lower prem like Wolves and Leicester.
Baines and Tait are highly regarded coaches one just starting out and Tait an experienced developer of young players.
It’s scouts and players what we need as a development programme with top coaches is pointless without the raw materials to work with and improve.

….my understanding is that Thelwell has brought in new personnel. Regardless, I think the Academy is more about recruitment than coaching. The coaching is fine, the special talent will come through but the difficulty is finding them. There is also an increasing trait of promising Academy players leaving for attractive financial packages elsewhere.

I have spoken to a few of are young players , and they all have a lot of time for Tait said he was the only one holding it together behind the scenes in the Rafael times and surprisingly when Lampart was in charge, who with the exception of Ashley Cole who was good with them, they said it was a shambles and nobody seemed to know what half the people around the manager did from there viewpiont.
It's the recruitment that has killed us of the pitch , the ban didn't help and City hoovering up everything in the NW hasn't helped either.
