Everton Youth Teams Thread

Pops up everywhere in those clips, clearly a goal scorer but obviously likes to drop deep and get involved too. Dare I say it, ever so slight Rooney vibes?

….i absolutely get the Rooney vibe, i was also thinking Robbie Keane.

I think it’s fine to compare these youngsters with established professionals, just to suggest the ‘type’ of player they are.

….16 year old playing open age is the key, receiving and turning, not scared of the occasion.
Linfield had a league decider last April and David Healy gave him a start at only 16. They didn't win but I watched and he played well. You wouldn't get picked in a big game like that unless your manager had a lot of faith in you.

The bits I saw Graham hardly touched the ball …. then bang , a well worked free kick and he scores, then a long ball from another free kick from the left , one subtle touch and he steers it past their gk . The excitement will build with this kid , he looks the real deal, like Harrison Armstrong stick a “ Handle me with Care” label on him and let him mature at the right pace

…sometimes you can’t hold them back, maybe his physicality will keep in his age group for now.

Team for the Espanyol game looks to be:
Lukjanciks
Lambert Freedman Gardner Billington
Matos Foster
Akarakiri Roberts Graham Wren

Although I'm not 100% sure about the defence.

He’s got the height for it, but Gardner definitely did not look comfortable playing as a CB.

Glad to see so many “pre-scholars” (??? I don’t know what the correct term is) not just filling roster spots and getting a few minutes off the bench, but starting and looking more than competent. Bodes well for next summers batch.

I have a regular mini-rant about the comparisons with rugby and physicality. You can’t turn a Welch into a Branthwaite but if Braiden Graham was a valuable 16 year old rugby player of international potential then by 18 he would likely be a stone heavier with a slim but muscular frame and no loss of speed, skill etc. I remain baffled why we don’t do this more in football and why the likes of Gordon end up getting their own personal trainer in and building himself up physically. Mini rant over …. until the next time 🙂
