Bradthwaite ? They are out there in the lower divisions our scouting system needs a revamping!

….he’s a bit different to the Catterick and Academy successes you were alluding to as he was a young professional playing for Carlisle. We’ve done ok with those types if you include DCL, Stones etc (as per my post above).

Its huge mate, I'm in West Sussex (my mate is also) Brighton is in East Sussex, its about 40 mins in the traffic (sometimes a bit quicker) They wanted an under 10 year old, (he signed for them when he was about 6/7 years old I think) to go for training in the evenings 3 times a week then matches at the weekend on top of school work! Its madness imo. He did have Chelsea and West Ham sniffing around him too which both his parents rightly said no as there was no way they could ferry him up and down to London multiple times a week.
A lot of truth in how you explain the difficulties in travelling arrangements getting young kids to the training grounds, it should also be pointed out that a lot or all of these clubs do not meet the cost of this travelling, I know the parents of two young lads who travel to Man.City, one for the last six or seven years the other more recent neither of these lads parents receive help financially getting there and back from the training grounds.

….probably been a strategy for a bit thinking of the likes of Fraser Hornby and Brendan Galloway. The most successful strategy getting breakthrough professionals such as Stones, DCL, Branthwaite and even Holgate.

As you say, it’s an increasingly cut-throat market.
That Welch came on pre-season & looked the business - we send him out on loan to get kicked about - he looked like he could play anywhere in the back 4 named the next Dave Watson -

The new mission from the new owners makes sense - over the park they have more youngsters making the grade than we do as Dyche just ignores them - even Bradthwaite took an age to get a game when his mate Keane who was stinking the gaff out was chosen ahead of him ...
We are the slowest oldest team in the Prem ....fact - It's a hard job ahead for any new Manager as I can only see Dyche lasting short term - his football hurts my eyes .... .... Crystal Palace, seem to do it without spending 100 of millions too....

I don't think that is entirely accurate Joey.
I think we have a good record for bringing young players through to the first team.
Unfortunately, we haven't been able to keep them.

….sadly, Welch looked dreadfully exposed and uncompetitive in FA Youth Cup and U21 games, before he went on loan. He had wonderful size and physicality but just never progressed. I thought he was going to have a chance and was really disappointed watching him in those games. It happens, very few come through and they find their level.

These youngsters have to be good enough, Joey, regardless of Manager.

The team over the park find them the new owners have ade it a priority so lets wait & see !

…..these statements are so much easier said than done, Joey.

You and I saw Husband, Tommy Wright, Royle, Hurst, Kenyon, Whittle et al on a conveyor belt of young talent in the 60s but times have changed significantly. Whilst we lived playing street football, honing our skill set whilst enjoying ourselves, kids of today don’t play and exercise to the extent we did so talent is less plentiful.

I’m afraid even Catterick would struggle unearthing youngsters these days and even when you do, other clubs can attract them in an open market. There’s no magic wand, it’s an honourable but difficult aim.
You don’t need a magic wand these days Eggs a cheque book is much better, that will attract most kids and their parents!

Sorry to go over old ground but Re the FA Youth Cup game: Everton U18s 7 - 0 Nottm Forest U18s

I can't find any details of the subs made anywhere. Someone on here said Gardner and Olayiwola came on around 60 minutes for Foster and Matos. Thanks for that.

Then it looks like the front line was replaced around 80 minutes, with Stewart on for Clarke, Loney on for Morgan, and Wren on for Catesby. Does that sound right?

And were there any yellow cards?
