He was always rapid but had no positioning sense. At the time people wanted to turn him into a winger. He’s great now but he was extremely raw back then. I can’t remember anyone complaining about the £2.5M back then.….i remember posting on here at the time that getting rid of Robinson was a mistake. The promise was there but the speed was obvious. The problem as I recall was a couple of serious injuries at key stages but Baines was coming to the end of his career and the door was opening just as he was ditched.
Not many get away but you have to wonder if we’d have been better off keeping Cannon rather than celebrating 25% of his sell-on.
