Everton Youth Teams Thread

So were basically 15pts clear with sunderland having 2 games in hand.

Makes sense to move players into U21s for valuable experience and also give younger players games at this level.

How did Foulds get on? Odd that hes started today as i thought he wouldnt even be allowed to move until Jan...

top of the table is
1st man city 35 points off 17 games
2nd everton 35 points off 16 games
3rd Liverpool 34 points off 16 games
4th Blackburn 25 points off 15 games-there game was called off due to rain today

sunderland 5th on 20 points from 13 games, result v newcastle yet to come in

Liverpool 3-1 goal assisted free kick from 45 yards top corner.

Everton pull one back. Overhead kick from edge of box. 3-2.

Last minute Everton equaliser. 3-3.

Liverpool grab a late winner in the tenth minute of extra time, nightmare. 4-3. Final whistle.

I think your stream was running a few years late and you were watching an old mini- derby.
Shame on you for trying to wind up your fellow Blues.

Just in case anyone's daft enough, or naive enough, to believe Megahead ...
]
Well people weren't daft or naive. "Megahead's" first intervention saying "3-1" was entirely believable as we were 2-1 down , in play and a few of us trying to keep people updated. No big deal, just a mild irritation that was easily corrected but he should keep his WUMing to threads where likeminded WUMs can WUM him to his hearts content. :-)

Zat, firstly put this into perspective, he's a 17 year old playing his first game for us having only trained with us recently, I noticed people getting excited this week that we have our third in line left sided CH, he's way way from being that.

I thought he looked very good particularly given the conditions and he had a sound game. Arguably he was our best defender today, although there were mistakes particularly in the first half. A few things I liked about him. He often took responsibility for playing the ball from the back by moving sideways to the left back position when our GK had the ball and then looked to play the ball out from there. Distin used to do similar in Roberto's early days, thereby allowing the LB to move up. When he had the ball he looked calm and unflustered but when needed hoofed the ball upfield. In one period he won three headers in quick succession and despite having a "skinny" frame he was strong when needed and wasn't shoved around, although his direct opponents weren't particularly big , just pacy. A sound start to his Everton career.

If, well when really, he does it again, click on Report link by his post and, if I'm around, I'll thread ban him. If he hadn't been reported today, we'd have been blissfully unaware of the bollocks he was posting. I appreciate he can be annoying, but, as DH says, he doesn't really mean any harm.

If there wasn't a certain amount of silliness on the forum it'd be dreadfully dull. Finding a balance is the trick.

Sure, first game in a derby with a new team....i was absolutely gobsmacked when i saw he was in the side, didnt think he would be eligible till January.

Also, i think having been signed for money and after Roberto's comments about us lacking in that position in the youth i think it was "Feeney" (?) who stepped up from u18s to the u21s and apparently the team applauded his debut performance?

Obviously its very hard to compare them after one game but based on what youve posted it appears that hes in the same mould as Stones/Galloway/Holgate being tall skinny ball playing centre backs.

I would have thought it likely for him to go into the u21s due to us paying money but "Feeney"(?) seems to have stepped up. Is "Feeney"also similar to the others Martinez has signed or a different type of centre back?

As ever, not having seen enough of him, it's down to educated assumptions, bits of play seen, reports etc. Feeney has formed an effective CH pairing with Jack Bainbridge in key matches this season for the U18, and my impression has been that Bainbridge is the more attacking, get forward of the two , Feeney the more defensively sound. Bainbridge was in MF today. At 16 Feeny's young to be playing CH at u21 level , first year scholar, so that says something about how he's viewed.Foulds is a year older, with an extra year as a "full time" scholar behind him, simarly his competition for U21 places are 19,20 ish plus Kenny , Connolly at 18 who can also play CH. So if he starts tomorrow and in other u21 games this season it will very good progress and I would assume ahead of his development plan, playing regular u21s next season is the more likely. We'll know more if he plays tomorrow and in coming weeks.

Thanks for that. I didnt realise Feeney was 16, thats really a good achievement to get into the U21s at that age and receive plaudits on his debut for them.

I think its going to be an interesting few years now with Stones/Mori developing and then Browning, Galloway and Holgate now this next wave of potential centre backs.

I suppose the next gauge is to see how/if Foulds/Feeney and the others in the youth system play consistently in the U21s.

I was chatting to a chap through the week who has refereed in the under 18's league. He said us and city are head and shoulders above everyone. The only difference is they all seem huge and he thought our players all seemed tiny

That's an interesting comment from someone who has a far better perspective than most of us. It can be difficult to assess as teams change week to week but I suspect Liverpool and Wolves may disagree with him based on recent results . Equally , four of our best u18 players didn't play in the past 2 matches - Davies, Evans, Dowell and Connolly who is eligible but clearly an u21 player now. One nice thing about yesterday's game was the Liverpool commentators on their team " he's from Porto, Arsenal , USA etc" whereas ours were virtually all local /NW including some who started off with them. From memory i know we have a couple of Irish kids on, Kinsella and Lavery but mainly home grown.
In the Southern U18 league Chelsea are romping away with it and really do appear to be head and shoulders above the rest, so it will be interesting to see how they fare when the "elite" group forms to decide the U18 Champions.

Liverpool have virtually given up on the younger age groups at there academy.

I know directly that they believe they can pay the contract release clauses that all young academy players now have and take anyone at that later stage when they've seen them have a few years playing at academy level. Not quite City but Liverpool are the next club after them who believe they can buy the talent at younger age groups rather than scout and develop.

They have been losing out on the best local talent to Everton and City but once they get to 11 & 12 they're trying to get them back using money to tempt parents a pay release clauses.

It's something that's only started happening in the last 18 months but it's basically how they plan to move forward now.
