Everton Youth Teams Thread

Great point Eggs about quality negating size, but having never seen him play what are those qualities, speed, skill, strength ??

….i’ve not seen enough of him to determine his strengths but I’d imagine he’s a natural in respect of looking after a football when in possession, I’d also think he can tuck away a chance so strikes the ball well. I’d also think he’s got the right attitude, it’s quite intimidating jumping up a few age groups at that level but he seems to be able to handle it.

Dad is Polish citizen I think
It does seem complicated. His half brother Junior Nsangou is at Blackburn , born in Cameroon, eligible for England, and Poland too apparently through his step mother. You may be right about his dad also being a Polish citizen , but it may be that Jon was born in Poland and his mother has a Polish connection too . It seems he’s lived in England from about 4 or 5, hence that eligibility. Let’s hope he doesn’t get injured or we won’t hear about him again until he’s about 18.

….others better qualified than me but it looks like he’s stepped up. I assume there’d be no guarantee’s on who’s selected for this game.
He seems to be a regular u21 now so you’d expect him to play. There will be youngsters missing who are on international duty , Aled Thomas and George Morgan for Wales come to mind, Graham wasn’t selected in the Ireland u19s , he was with their u18s last time I don’t think they’re playing. Martin Sherif maybe away with the Netherlands plus a couple of goalkeepers away possibly . So a good chance Graham will play .

I also like the lad we got from Wimbledon, Foster I think. He looks very tall and fast on possession.

Justin Clarke I think. He got sent off in U18s

Yes thats Justin Clarke. Right sided and 16-17 years old.

From reports i was expecting him and Graham to both have stepped up to the u21s by now.

Is there someone good ahead of him blocking that u21 step up?

Benjamin has been starting the bulk of the U21 games wide on the right the past few weeks. I think Clarke has a much higher ceiling but Benjamin is definitely a more refined player at this point. Maybe he gets a look in at the end of the year, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he finishes the year with the U18s, and is vying for a starting spot in the u21 beginning of next year, depending on who of Beaumont-Clark, Ebere, Boakye & Benjamin get loaned/released.

For me Justin Clarke is at exactly the place on the path he should be as a talented first year scholar . I’m not having a pop here, but your “ From reports I was expecting ….” sums up how most people’s view the youngsters , read the reports, watch a few 90 sec clips = instant opinion. In Clarke’s case he exploded on the scene with some excellent goals and a great turn of pace. Watch him for a full game and you could see how talented but raw he is , often running down blind alleys and perhaps more importantly failing to get his head up and be aware of the players around him in a better position for him to pass to. Forget about their positions and style, but for me one thing that distinguishes Graham and Armstrong is their awareness of what’s going on around them and where other players are. You can’t train the natural talent Clarke has but hopefully they can work on his weaknesses . Starting and playing more in the u21s is a good target for the rest of the season for him.

Dad played a few years in Poland before moving over here

Heard big reviews about Clarke, but only time I saw him was the first test event. He showed talent but as you said, doesn’t get his head up and goes down blind alleys. I admit, it’s not right to Judge a player on 1 game, but hopefully he can be coached and nurtured the right way.
