Everton Youth Teams Thread

Liverpool u23s win the derby 2-0 and provide everton u23s with only there 2nd defeat, everton stay top 2 points ahead of 2nd,the u23s next game is home to chelsea on halloween-they now have 5 "home" games in row or 9 in 10 home games in all comps

lol @ the vermin commentators trying to claim a penalty for that
I always find their commentators entertaining, three things are certainties from them , within 5 mins Steven Gerrard and how well the first team are playing get mentioned and by the end of the match Istanbul gets mentioned, took 80 odd mins today.

Not a great overall display but thought that we matched them pretty much apart from taking opportunities. Nice to see RK watching, it will give him a good idea of who's got the potential to train with the first team. Hate losing to the RS , but still a young team for u23 level and still top of the league.

Naturally I'd hope we'd beat the RS, but even more disappointing was that so few players would have impressed koeman with their displays today. I'm sure many of this squad have at times trained with the first team, but very few enhanced their prospects today,to push for a first team nod, that many of us have been advocating.

yeah it was poor. Thought davies looked as good as he usually does on the ball, very rarely loses it and has great upper body strength.

There is a case to ask why liverpool bother with a youth academy, can't think of anyone in their current first team setup who's actually come through it. Seems in recent years it's been used purely to shelter youngsters they've bought from elsewhere until they're good enough to sell (seeing as they've now become a selling club), ala ibe and sterling.

The lack of attendance from klopp mirrors this aspect.

apparently their first team was training today which i thought strange after a game last night.

It was interesting reading Unsy's comments on the derby game which mirrored what most felt, we didn't perform to our best but weren't far off drawing it. U23s are also a good development ground for managers as well as players, Unsy is doing fantastic but I thought he made some mistakes on Sunday. When we went 1-0 down we dominated for perhaps the next 15 mins and a key attacking outlet was Robinson getting forward from left back and getting decent crosses in. It was difficult for Calvert-Lewin to get the better of the experienced Sakho so adding another forward was the answer , but I was very surprised that he took Robinson off and not Jones. Not only did we lose the attacking momentum down the left but with Jones going to right back every defender had to shuffle over 1 position to the left resulting in a complete defensive change.
Initially I thought he'd gone to 3 at the back which worked so well in last season's fixture, and at one time Connolly and Jones seemed to be ahead of Davies/Walsh, which was odd.

The subs bench looked unbalanced from the start and we ended up with three similar attackers when Dyson and Duffus were brought on. Maybe Sambou would have offered something different than say Duffus, but what we didn't have was an Evans type player or an attacking midfielder to come on to run at their defence. The one thing Unsy has shown he can do is pick up his teams after a defeat or poor performance so hopefully back on track for the next game.

Agreed. Thought our substitutions hindered not enhanced our chances of getting something from the game. Robinson was providing quality service from the left and we were dominating the first 20 mins of the second half. The substitutions allowed them to get a foothold back in the game that eventually resulted in their 2nd goal.

I think like most managers, unsworth has his favourites and jones is definitely one of them.
I was more disappointed he put a defender in for niasse
