Everton Youth Teams Thread

This season we have had Holgate and Davies in the first team at different times.
I am not sure that too many teams have as many.
Galloway has gone to WBA but has fallen out of favour , he still is very much in a learning mode, if he had stayed at Everton people would be saying that he should be a first team regular , even though it is obvious that there are still flaws in his game.
Last season Kieran Dowell was scoring great goals and forcing attention onto himself. This season his form has dipped. It is his responsibility to make the manager sit up and take notice, which he will do if Dowell plays well enough.

I think people need to understand that we have a manager in RK with a different mindset to the previous manager.
RM was very interested in developing youth and certainly was having success in that area.

Ronald Koeman wants to have a team that wins and doesn't care if the player is aged 16 or 36. Under Koeman it will get even harder for young players to break through as each transfer window goes by and he adds the players he wants to his squad.
Only the very cream of the academy will ever get a first team chance going forward...is that any different to City, Utd, Spurs, Chelsea ?

Dowell missed out on a loan last year, due to injuries. Maybe he and few others will go on loan in January.

This will also allow the younger players to old for the 18's to get some games.

Your right about the cream of academies only getting a chance. But I think it covers all the prem teams now, not just the top ones.

Teams are desperate to stay in the prem for obvious reasons. And managers know they don't get much time. So it's a big risk to gamble on s few youngsters

mustve missed all his successes in that area. who are you referring to?

Not Holgate? I think he has more chance than the other two based on how well he performed at the beginning of the season before getting cruelly dropped.
Yeah sorry I left out Holgate I was more or less looking at lads that haven't really made an impression yet on the first team. Holgate made a good one unfortunate to be left out of squad since.

Although its an anomaly, i read that Rashford was hardly scoring for UTD u19s before he was elevated to the first team...so hard to gauge whether players will hit the ground running or need a lot of loans where they look out of their depth before everything finally seems to click (Harry Kane).

Such a shame our striker options are so weak in the first team squad bar Lukaku. One notable item which ive mentioned here in the past is that other than one or two players theres not many English forwards coming through in the premier league. Perhaps we need to jettison the idea of Kones and Valencias and try to scoop up some of the talent coming through?

...Calvert-Lewin doesn't look a prolific scorer to me, much more in the traditional Graham Sharp mould of centre forward. He's a 'lead the line' striker, comfortable with his back to goal, mobile and decent in the air. Lots will depend on how/if he fits RK team model, he's technically good enough to join up play if the blend is right.

With the long balls were using thesedays we do need someone like that, in the same vein that Koeman had at Southampton.

Yeah that's a good assessment of him , particularly last Sunday . Previously though he has scored a few goals for us and England and also looked a sharp attacker when Niasse lead the line, setting up a goal, for him as well as scoring himself . He looks like a fast learner re adapting to different roles.

If you could not see the concentration on the academy and young players during the time that RM was at the club then I fear for your eyesight.

Galloway, Holgate, Davies, Pennington, Connolly Browning all played in the first team while RM was at the club Kenny , Dowell played immediately after he left.

In just a three year spell, I would consider that a success.

galloway played as last resort when baines and oviedo were injured.
holgate didnt play for 1st team under him.
davies had a few minutes during an injury crisis, same as connolly.
pennington started one league cup game under him and was hooked at h/t.
browning may have played a few games more if he didnt get injured.

unsworth done more for the lot in 1 game than martinez done in 3 yrs.

i would consider that pathetic.

Well yes, except all but Galloway and browning were during the very last weeks of his time when he was rolling dice hoping for some miracle...he literally had nothing to lose.

Good to see Charlie Ball starting. Was highly rated a few years back but I'd not seen him mentioned for a while.
