Everton Youth Teams Thread

Maybe Kenny was captain over Ledson because Ledson is training with the first team more than the 21s and they'd rather have a captain who's consistently there?
Could be for Kenny's personal development - think Browning had a spell where he was captain as they thought he was a bit shy and needed to be more vocal on the pitch and making him captain was a way of putting him in a situatuon where he had to do it.

Ledson has already shown he is a confident lad, able to handle being captain both on and off the pitch such as doing media duties. Was impressed by Kenny during the England U17 competition as he was very calm taking the final, winning penalty - would be great to develop his leadership skills as well.

I remember Ledson being interviewed after the group game v Holland that they lost, the interviewer said something along the lines of "so it's your job to lift the lads now ahead of the next game", he basically agreed but said that he wasn't the only leader in the group and name checked Kenny and Joe Gomez as two others that were very vocal within the group.

So hope we are trying to tempt Gomez into joining Everton.

.....it's great to have a bit of team success but the real objective is bringing one or two through each year. I always think a proper run in the FA Youth Cup is a great indicator on the quality we have.

Yer would be good, I reckon we tried in the summer, he was getting first team games for Charlton at the time but as soon as the transfer window shut he was benched, I don't think he's played since.
Stupid way to handle him if they have done that - a good relationship and playing time are the two key things Charlton could offer him compared to other clubs and benching him wrecks both.

I just checked Charltons results, he played three times before the window shut and twice since, he hasn't been in the match day squad for the last 5-6 games, like you say game time is the main thing they can offer to keep him there if not he might as well be playing under 21 football at a higher level club with better players.

Tom davies looked quite good at right back. Is he further down the pecking order as a central midfielder to walsh? Also does anyone know why donuhue isn't starting more? He was fantastic last season.
Ultimately we were playing without Connolly. Brewster, Ledson, Dowell and Kenny and still looked the better side.

Tom's been captaining England U17s recently, most definitely a holding midfielder, but not a tough tackling kind, assumed he played rightback because we had nobody else. Donahue's first game back was the derby, injured for quite a few months.

Brewster had his foot in a support boot when he was standing next to me, be out for a few weeks at a guess.

Often see some U18s vanish off the face of the earth sometimes, George Newell barely saw the light of day last season but is appearing a lot thus far.

Birch, Connolly, Ledson, Kenny, Brewster, Yarney, Mellen, Dowell, Myers, Edge and Robinson are all eligible and didn't feature in the match squad for one reason for another.

There is Under-21 action for England’s Luke Garbutt, who could play in friendlies against Portugal and France, and Republic of Ireland’s Sam Byrne, who will travel to Spain for fixtures against USA and Russia.

And there are also call-ups for many of the Blues' academy players with Brendan Galloway and Russell Griffiths selected for England's Under-19s, while Callum Connolly, Ryan Ledson and Liam Walsh have been selected for the Under-18s and Tom Davies, Nathan Holland and James Yates for the Under-17s.

Anyone know of Kenny is injured - surprised he didn't get an England call up.

he was in the original squad, walsh wasnt.

Max Lowe (Derby County) replaces Jonjoe Kenny
Liam Walsh (Everton) replaces Jordan Rossiter

I thought he had a very tidy game at Right back. I just thought it was interesting that Walsh Started ahead of him in Cm, as did Williams, but perhaps Davies has more versatility.

People are making the obvious comparison with Ledson. It will be interesting to see if he can make a similar impression as he begins to grow a bit.
