Everton Youth Teams Thread

played ok in the end, lots of the ball but Dyson got no service and wide play ended up being crowded out.

Joe Williams played well in the middle, we tackled superbly and it helped with our possession. Was it Davies or Yates who scored? Couldn't really see from the other end!

Reckon Williams will make it Swiss?

Hes certainly key to the possessional style of play that they adopt and plays an important role, but I haven't really seen him excel. I suppose the Gareth Barry's of the world take up roles that aren't 'sexy' but are still vital to some systems like Williams is.

Think he'll have a career but can't see it being Premier League.

...I've been talking about his kid from when I first saw him. Not a classy type but the sort every team needs. Loved him against Anderson and Man Utd last season, not saying he'll come through but I like Williams a lot.

there's always lads like James Wallace and Adam Forshaw, the kind of lads you can say theyve something about them, but not quite Everton material. Sometimes they just need an extra few years elsewhere, much like Baines and Jagielka, and they may go onto bigger things.

there's a few like that in our u21s and u18s, not quite Everton material but the foundations are there to build on and who knows what they can build for themselves.

I've only seen the kids in the flesh 5 or 6 times over the last year or so but I have to say that on each occasion Williams has looked every bit as useful as Ledson. In fact given all the hype about him I've invariably been a bit disappointed with Ledson. Technically excellent. Stylish. But not one to have you on the edge of your seat with anticipation.

In fairness I think consistency can say as much, if not more, about a player of that age than flashes of brilliance can.

And on to Monday’s second match with Poland, the defender says he is hungry for another win – and he confident of getting his name on the score sheet again. “We need to keep our focus and take what chances we create – we want another win.

“And I wouldn’t mind another goal too. It’s on the cards, so I’d advise anyone to back me scoring!”
