Everton Youth Teams Thread

The question would be, how much was down to him?
Impossible to say but from all the club briefed pieces, a lot of it was.

The question is, where is the room for improvement for his department? There's maybe one player in the academy that needed a loan and didn't get one this season. And practically all of the loans have been a success. As head of academy recruitment we had our most aggressive and positive scholarship class since the ban.

I'm also questioning who on earth has the authority to make such a decision because if its not Gareth Prosser then were in trouble.

Yep I don't think there can be any legitimate gripes against Vaughan. He has improved the academy and pathways year on year. Practically turned water into wine with Tom Cannon. I really don't know who had the authority to make such a change though.
The Tom Cannon that had signed a professional contract before Vaughan had retired from playing? Made his senior debut a month after Vaughan joined the club after training with the first team all preseason?

I don’t think you can really claim he was the catalyst in the grand transformation of a player that played a massive 3 times for us.

He’s literally been in the academy recruitment job for a year. Claiming he’s improved it year on year seems slightly hyperbolic.

I really don't think you've been paying attention to the academy if you think Tom Cannon was the same player before the Preston loan as after. It increased his value tenfold which helped keep the club afloat. The same way Harrison Armstrong has now got a great championship loan.

And if you can't see the improvement in recruitment from this scholar year to the last then that's just ignorance on your part.

😂 the sale of Tom Cannon was the only difference between us and another 10 point deduction. Again I find it hard to comprehend that Vaughan had that much impact on him. Same with Armstrong, he’s a player that’s been on Championship/League One radars since October, it seems like it would be harder to mess up a loan move for him. Not disputing that Vaughan might have had some impact, but one was a player on the edge of the first team squad when he first came in and the others a lad that had played senior football for us before his loan. He’s hardly been the deciding factor in these players careers.

Same with the academy recruitment. He’s been in post 12 months. It’s hard to say exactly how much impact he’s had as the majority will have been done earlier - Braiden Graham had been scouted and signed before that point.

Like don’t get me wrong, wouldn’t say he’s done a bad job, but I don’t get the histrionics like we’re letting some unreal player whisperer walk away.
