Our squad, on paper; should be in the mid-table maelstrom. I assume a lot of the squad changes we make might be more with the medium/long term in mind and so I think we’ll probably stay there in terms of quality “on paper”.

With a bit of luck, and if Lampard is half the coach a lot think he is then at a stretch we might trouble the 8-10 positions. Too many teams too much better for Europe to remotely realistic via the league.

Would love mid table mediocrity. So much rides on Richarlison and DCL staying though. The players we needed last term and in those positions still need getting. I am worried about FFP which will affect our ability to get those players.

A very early poll, but it’d interesting to see what are fan’s expectations for next season. Some options overlap slightly.

I’ve left cups out as I feel we need to concentrate on the league primarily. Any cup run would be a bonus for me. Baby steps and all that.

Poll will close the day before the first fixtures are expected to be played on 5th August. Votes can be changed.

It depends on the summer.

Van De Beek, Delph, Sigurdsson, El Ghazi, Tosun and Kenny will all probably leave at the end of their contracts. Mina and Allan have only 12 months of their contract and could leave too.

That is a very big gap created in a squad that already looked light. And we do not have much (or any big amount) money to replace all of them. To fund replacing them, we will probably need to sell at least one of Pickford, Calvert Lewin and Richarlison (who also only has 12 months left).

We then have to get those transfers right. It is a very big task for the club.

If Forest win the playoff it seems like a pretty strong crop of teams coming up to replace three pretty poor ones. Could be an almighty scrap next year. We’ll need to be on it from the get go, but then any team that finished mid-table will be saying the same. If Brentford lose Eriksen they will be vulnerable to second season syndrome and Southampton ended on a poor trajectory.

I'd be happy with one of those mediocre seasons that peter out in mid-March, after this season's heart-stopping shenanigans. I can't see us doing a Leicester (escape relegation then win the league), and we're going to have improve the squad massively just to avoid another disappointing season. The summer should tells us a lot about our ambitions. Probably just to stay in the Premier League until the stadium's built, and Moshiri can sell up.

One thing is for sure that I don't think I can handle another relegation battle. That was mentally exhausting. I expect us to have a mid table finish and would be okay with 10-13. For me though, I think it is most important that we really try to establish an identity as a club/team and continue to build on that for the future.

First of all we need a good summer. What defines a "good" summer is obviously subjective, but for me I'd say we must sort out RB, CB and CM. Additionally, someone who can pick a pass would be a Godsend too. And of course if we do sell a big hitter we must replace them.

Next I'd hope we can instil some kind of style. Lampard clearly has some ideas about how he wants us to play and we need to establish some kind of identity beyond panic and passion.

In terms of the table, it's hard to say. The strength of the league changes constantly. I think mid table comfort should be the minimum requirement. Yes we have been in a relegation dogfight this season but we should never have been here. A top half finish or even a push for Europe would be an excellent season, but this is likely to be fanciful. You never know, though.

I fully expect us to have little to no money to spend this summer, unless we sell.

So I'd like top half, but anywhere between 14th - 8th would be fine all things considered

Mid table I would be delighted with given the circumstances

As others have said, depends on the ins and outs really.

Dreading another relegation battle.

Mid table would be progress considering the mess the club is in. I would like to see significant changes at board level and the start of a much needed clean out of all the championship level players and the lads that couldn't really give a toss etc. Going to take time so anything around mid table would be a good start.

I’d bite your hand off for comfortable safety tbh (as in not in a relegation fight coming into the final stretch.)

Anything else would be a bonus.

Whilst a tad kopite I thiought the attached segment of an article suggested our underlying process under Lampard was better than our league position would tell.... I know the table never lies but...
xG table bottom half

Everton and Leeds 'too good to go down'?

  • A Villa: Infogol position: 11th | Actual position: 14th
  • Everton: Infogol position: 12th | Actual position: 16th
  • Leeds: Infogol position: 13th | Actual position: 17th
Aston Villa, Everton and Leeds all changed manager during the 2021/22 campaign, seeing vast differences in their performance levels from coach to coach.
Villa’s position as the 11th-best team in the top-flight based on performance, three places higher than their actual finish, is far less headline-grabbing than the disparity for the two clubs immediately below them in Infogol’s standings.
Embroiled in a relegation dogfight until the penultimate game and very last kick respectively, Everton and Leeds’ underlying numbers suggest they ought to have been well clear of the bottom three.
Theoretically, a continuation of those long-term performance levels should see both teams enjoy more comfortable campaigns next year. In reality, some serious squad surgery is required at both clubs.

Thinking mid table, hardly any teams require a pure large scale cleansing like us, where one or two decent money signing can push them on, us ...... jesus where to start and how long will the fans give Frank before calling for his noggin if we are in 14/15 place just because they feel we should be challenging for a European spot when realistically we are nowhere near that party. I'd be happy with 12th or so if he can get a tune out of the guys and have then playing somewhat enjoyable to watch footie
Agree with this. Seen some already on the poll suggesting 5th-7th finish. Unrealistic expectations are part of the problem. It's a team that shouldn't be bottom of the table quality wise but certainly no where near the top spots. I'd be happy with 10th-12th and clear evidence that stability is being built before chasing european spots
