He's gained a lot of haters this weekend has Max, and rightfully so. For the sake of one measly point, and with the World Championship wrapped up weeks ago, he refused to move over to give his team mate an advantage in the race to second position in the Championship.
This after Perez was told to move over himself in the race to give Max a shot at taking Alonso, which he failed to do. Absolutely disgusting act of sportsmanship and teamwork by Verstappen, truly reprehensible behaviour from somebody who more or less owes his Championship victory last season to Perez with his selfless teamwork in holding up Hamilton in Abu Dhabi and preventing him from having a big enough gap to pit for newer tires for the safety car.
For me, the worst part of it this weekend was the sheer arrogance in his voice when telling the team how he's "told you already why" he won't be moving over and "don't ask me again". We know Red Bull will always put Max about Perez, and yes he's clearly the better driver, but sometimes there are results that are simply better for the team, and having Perez finish the season in second place behind Verstappen in first is clearly the best result they can aim for, and now that's in major jeopardy thanks to Verstappen's selfishness.
I think he'll be under very, very strict orders in Abu Dhabi to essentially turn the tables and try to restore some of his reputation by playing Perez's understudy as best he can. Despite being the golden boy of the team, I am certain Verstappen will have been given a major dressing down and the team will try to regain some good PR in the final race. But with Mercedes looking good finally and Ferrari always a threat, it may be too late.
