F1 2024 (and other motorsport) thread

Would there be any comeback on Piastri missing his markers at the pitstop? Seems careless and obviously incredibly dangerous or is it just accepted as a risk of choosing to stand in front of a moving vehicle?

Not really a fan of Russell but feel very sorry for him there. Could understand it being underweight being a genuine mistake but not fully draining the fuel before weighing seems less genuine.

Not sure it was that much of a factor relative to the fact the DRS zone was shortened and Hamilton was running a bit more wing. No one could pass today. Hamilton was 7 tenths quicker and then just stalled out behind Russell and started lapping at Russell's pace.
While I agree the 1.5kg in weight likely in itself wasn’t a deciding factor, the fact he’s gone with a 1 stop strat and likely ran his juice so low he’s under weight is imho.

Does seem incredibly harsh to punish a driver who has driven well enough to make a one stop strategy work.

F1 really doesn't help itself sometimes with some of these rules.
Considering some of the stuff you can do and only get a 5/10 sec penalty, total disqualification seems harsh, but you can see why the rule exists.

Interesting point from Horner (far from a fan of his btw) that Russell would have easily shed 1.5kg of extra rubber on a one stop and comments on using fuel as ballast.
With the shedding of the tires and the necessity to put his foot down to maintain the lead, it's likely it's merely been a miscalculation.

But the rules are there for a reason, so as Toto remarked it's for Mercedes to take it on the chin.

Didn’t work though did it? Either ended up running light on fuel or rubber or both🤷🏻‍♂️.

As others have said it seems incredibly harsh when you see what some get away with.

Was a great race from Russell but have to wonder if they’d run more fuel or pitted for rubber to stay on / over weight where would he have placed then

Its turning into a stonker of a season. Top 4 teams interchanging positions from race to race. If only they could eek more overtaking and close racing out of these cars without the need to renew the technical guidelines.

So rumours picking up that Red Bull were going to fire Perez but because Perez has his own documentary coming out on Disney in a few months they pressured Liberty Media to keep him in the sport who then pressured Red Bull to keep him.

Feel likek RB give no Fs what LM or Disney think/want. No one there seems to be the type to bow the knee to their overlord, especially for something non-sporting to affect their most important sporting result.
