Why do we have to face City at any point?

Could we not have seen City taken out by Chelsea or United and then coasted through the QF and SF against Bournemouth or Sheff Utd or S'ton; then faced a one off against United, Chelsea or Leicester?

This is a disastrous draw. With a full Goodison, maybe. That's not to be. They want this and they'll demolish us.

Last time we got to the final we beat Liverpool in 4th round finished 2nd Villa in the 6th round finished 6th United in semis finished 1st in the Premier League so maybe the hard route suits us.
 

If we want to win it, we’d have had to play them at some point no doubt.

I’d genuinely rather not play City in a season curtain closer final when they’ll no doubt have a fully fit and well rested squad to choose from.

If City aren’t going to win the FA cup, someone needs to beat them at some point, might as well be us init.

Very pessimistic there footballs not that cut and dried. Spurs are probably better man for man and look what happened.

See it as an opportunity to knock our biggest rival out for it.
 

Just thought I'd read this thread on your thoughts. I wanted united away personally to knock them out of two cups in the same season but we got you away. Anything is possible and we are beatable. Everton were our bogey team(amongst several others) for years.

I want us to win obviously, but if you win then I sincerely hope you can go on to win the cup. 1995 was your last trophy winning the FA cup iirc. That a long time ago for a club of your stature. That said you could have been born a Geordie. I think Methuselah was a lad the last time they bought any Brasso.

Wasn't that long ago when we won nothing for many years. Your one will come lads.

Even if we beat City we'll have atleast one or both of Chelsea and Utd in the Semi's/final - and if someone can say we can beat Spurs, Man City, Utd and Chelsea then we should be winning the league not sat in 7th.

Thats not slagging Everton off thats just being realistic.

We are all desperate for a cup but we just aint there yet and neither are sides like Leicester, West Ham etc for clubs like us you need luck in the draw - Saints getting Bournemouth in the quarter for example.

Our best chance of silverware wasnt 09 it was the year Wigan beat us in the quarter - would have had Millwall in the Semi's then an out of sorts City in a one off final but we bottled it.
