My first was 1957. Villa beating Man U.Yeah, I watched my first FA Cup final in 1970 between Chelsea and Leeds as an 8 year old and haven't missed a final since. I wanted Chelsea to win that one because they played in blue and I felt a bit sorry for them after we beat them 5-2 on our way to winning the league.
It used to be a massive occasion and was always the last match of the domestic season. Only the European Cup final was played after it.
Coverage used to start at 9am and I'd sit through the whole thing, even rubbish stuff like the It's a Knockout special with fans from both teams.
It's sad that it's lost a lot of the grandeur it once had.
Agree on Wembley. No twin towers, not the same. The new Wembley looks plastic and corporate. Neither team is comprised largely of British players who came up from the streets understanding what ye FA cup means. Its a game between two sets of mercenaries. Genuinely have little interest compared with my youth.
I'm fed up with Chelsea buying this Cup so I'm all for Leicester winning it - not for the club but for the city.
Which means Chelsea will win obviously.
The last time I can remember that happening was when we played Chelsea in 09, Setanta did the full day build up. Sad thing is, in this social media age, no one has the patience to sit through a full day of fluff before the game begins anymoreRemember the good old days of the FA cup final when it would start on the tele from about 9am. Showing the teams in the hotels before the game and then following the coaches all the way to the ground.
Was quality compared to the coverage it gets now.
My first was wham v Preston 1964. HK played for Preston , 3-2 to West Ham.My first was 1957. Villa beating Man U.
I've always loved the Villa kit worn that day.
