FA Cup fourth round draw - Carlisle (A)

People wonder why the F.A. Cup is becoming more demeaned every year.

The draw is going out live during a naff TV show at sometime between 7 pm and 7.30 of a Monday night.

Says it all.

Remember the days when a victory in an F.A. Cup tie had you on tenterhooks all weekend, anxiously waiting a 1.30 pm Monday draw on your transistor radio at school or in the workplace?

When two arl blokes picking balls from a wee black bag and calling out the team names in hushed tones actually added to the drama and mystique of what was once the premier domestic cup competition in the world.
I think it's more to do with $$ and CL, from others' point of view, why care about the fa cup and the league cup when you can win the 4th place trophy with CL entry and the huge influx of cash that comes with it. Personally I want to see Everton win actual silverware

Don't know why they don't just give a CL spot to the cup winner. Our performances in Europe have been tosh recently anyway so I don't know why they'd be worried about an also ran winning it and dragging down the coefficient.

Immediately it would go back to being the competition everyone wanted to win. When the FA cup dies for me that will be the end of everything good about English football and it will officially be the Sky money train for the benefit of a select few clubs.

and at the time i worked with what i reckon was the only Shrewsbury fan in Ireland

Could be worse.

You could have went

Alexandersson scored for us if i remember right. We had a proper bad spell around that time, think we drew with Birmingham and Rooney lost his head and got sent off, and then drew with someone else who were awful thenneeded a last second Radzinski equaliser to equalise against a proper gash City team, then we had the infamous Espen Baardsen 4-3 loss to Spurs.

That was also the year of 'The Magnificent Seventh' oh, the shame.

Not terrific at math(s), but I reckon that's 56/1 to win them both

Actually 75.5/1

I make serenity closest to being right.......it is 3 X 17 + 8.5 = 59.5 - 1 = 58.5/1 by my reckoning

(the -1 being an original pound stake)

I think you might be adding £17 nominal stake to the actual winnings, Hallam.....your figure minus 17 is 58.5 :)

Or something

I was actually using 7/2 * 16/1 = 112/2 = 56/1

Then again, the actual odds (whatever this means) and the odds provided by a betting shop might be quite different. Would be interesting to compare the sets of odds quoted by a shop to see how they view the spread; I imagine they won't be as linear. (Not that I understand betting; neither the American nor British version of it.)

We're gonna draw City, aren't we...
