FA Cup Replays

For me personally the FA Cup lost some of its appeal when Man Utd were allowed to sack it off to play in the club World Cup in the early 2000’s, and just didn’t seem the same at the new Wembley, especially when they started playing semi finals there.

They’ve spread kick off times to suit an international tv audience, at the expense of what made it sellable in the first place - fans and match atmosphere.

I would love Everton and a large number of teams to boycott and not fulfill any fixtures in the competition next season, but I can’t see it happening, and it would probably give them one more thing to deduct points off us for.

Disgusting, disgraceful decision that goes against the very heart of the English game.

They love their broadcast partners showing all the giant killings and the mad replays on the VTs every year, like your ronnie radfords, Mickey Thomas goal for Wrexham and teams like Shrewsbury beating Everton against all odds, and talking about the magic of the cup, but it’s all just lies and garbage - they have killed the competition little by little over the years, this is the final nail.

If they need to reduce games in players interests maybe stop flying halfway around the world in preseason to play other PL teams?

The traditional preseason circuit of playing lower league teams in your region is already gone which affects income for those teams, removing the chance of a replay for them is a further kick in the teeth for their finances.

But it's OK as the PL want to share the scraps from the table with the pyramid, if they want the scraps it will come with conditions such as this.

BBC sport saying "this will split opinion."

No it won't. Decent football fans realise how important replays can be for lower league clubs.

Only glory hunters and entitled bells who support teams with huge squads anyway and are chasing the title will want this.
Unless you are fighting in the champions league, the odd replay isn’t a factor.
Ironically those with the biggest squads making the most noise. They can still put an u23 squad out I guess in this competition, still fill the stadium of some small club.
Would be happier with euro teams opting out each each season.

Semi finals around the country were always special

Thought I'd start a specific thread.

The torrent of disgust expressed throughout the Football League, and Non League, regarding the proposed ditching of replays, notwithstanding the Final now not being the final game of the season, is wholly justified. To misquote Oscar Wilde : the Premier League knows the price of everything, and the value of nothing. The oligarchy running football should just bugger off.

Just a couple of statements, amongst many made today.

Dickens summed up the formation of the Premier League, and what it has done/is doing to grass roots football, perfectly.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.

Even the title - A Tale of Two Cities - is ironic when think about London's and Manchester's dominance of it.

Apparently 792 clubs in the country eligible to play in the FA Cup, absolutely stinks that Masters and the PL (probably the 6 or 7 clubs that dictate things) have such power to come up with these absurd decisions!
In an ideal world you’d hope the Everton board would vote against such nonsense, but then you remember that Everton don’t have a functioning board any more - and haven’t had for some considerable time!

Disgusting decision. I really really want to know Everton’s position on this. I’ll be ashamed of us if we voted for it (if it was a voted matter)

Saw a statement where the FA discussed it with clubs, yet I believe clubs are saying they never heard it before. The rest of the statement says it was discussed in house where there are 4 Premier League reps and 4 EFL reps. So basically no vote, if they had performed a vote then they know that they would lose because they would have had to put it to every member club and the results would have been very, very obvious, would have been surprised if there was more than 1% voting for it.

It all screams bull faeces.

As the above post stated, this is affecting the potential for absolutely huge financial boosts for some clubs.

They also stated that there will be more news on possible further financial boosts for EFL and lower clubs. Will believe that when I see it.

Why don’t they name the clubs involved who they consulted with. Only one club that continually moans about the amount of games they play.
