Grantchester will never put a penny into the club as long as Kenwright is anywhere near it, or so the story goes

Heard that one, don't know of its validity, but one of things I said in that post was about the supposed agreement between Bill and Moshiri over the sale of the rest of Bill's shares, has that changed now ? Because that could be the key to Grantchester investing, he's held onto them shares for something, surely.

Usmanov, a top manager and new boardroom.

If there is any credence to the Usmanov rumours I do wonder whether his arrival would be conditional upon certain milestones being reached.

FFP and STCC regulations mean we can’t realistically pump in any more money than Moshiri is already putting in until we raise our revenues through regular European football, player trading, or commercial growth.

It could be that there’s little point in Usmanov coming on board just yet but if the opportunity arises where we had the ceiling room to make a big investment he might pile in then.

Until that point we’re prob just another bit of UK estate that he doesn’t particularly want on his books.

Last of Bills shares to change hands at end of July at the latest i think was the given timescale IINM

If abrmovich can't even get into the country then there is no way usmanov will risk his money.
A top manager agreed, we need to stop with this "young up and coming manager and hope he does well nonsense".
New board room agreed, someone who has pedigree and has worked ideally for a football club or well known multinational that can improve the brand and image

It's not about buying trophies, it's about improving the team.
We tried buying cheap youngsters and hoping they come good during the Moyes era, bottom line is you lack quality doing it that way.
If a team is going backwards the best players tend to leave stones Barkley lukaku

It's not always the case, it's just entirely about reinvesting that money wisely. Trading players for a few players can dishearten fanbases as their favourites leave, but it boosts the coffers sufficiently to strengthen in other areas. Liverpool selling their best player to sign Van Dijk and Alisson has paid off for them. United sold Beckham and signed Ronaldo, then Rooney the year after.

Going back a bit further, I remember Arsenal fans being up in arms about losing Petit and Overmars to Barcelona for a combined £30-odd million, which was a small fortune at the time. They went out and spent that on Pires, Wiltord, Lauren, Sol Campbell, Edu and Kolo Toure which would become the base of their invincibles team.

We sold Stones and signed Williams, Bolasie and Schneids. Even if you look back to us selling Rooney, our big replacements in the next few windows were Beattie, Kroldrup and Van Der Meyde. Fortunately, we also signed Cahill and Arteta in with that lot.

That is the only grain of hope to cling to at the moment tbh. Last summer window every single signing was a success and the level of the players in the squad improved. Richarlison Digne Bernard Gomes and Zouma are amongst our best players, and Mina looked solid when he was in the team. Keane Siggurdson Gueye and DCL also improved. I can’t remember the last window that we had that sort of recruitment success rate.

If Silva and Brands can repeat the trick again we could be in for an exciting time of challenging the top 6 members who aren’t doing this currently e.g United and Arsenal.

Emery bought Leno Torreira Sokratis Leichsteiner and Guendouzi. Potentially only Leno and Torreira are a resounding success from that list and guaranteed first team material.

United haven’t made a successful signing for a number of windows now and it remains to be seen how Solskjaer recruits in his first window.

There’s no reason we can’t do what Spurs and Liverpool have done which is overtake bigger teams by recruiting better and taking advantage of managerial stability.

For me this window and season will be crucial in answering the two key questions;

- was the last window a fluke or do we now have a recruitment team to rival our top 6 rivals?
- is Silva good enough to take advantage of this as Pochettino and Klopp did?

We should know over the course of next season. If the answer to both is positive then we will be successful as we will get stronger and stronger. If one of them falls down though we’ll remain where we are.

Story in the Echo, ( I know :) ) about Moshiri buying more shares, going up from 68% to 77%. But they say he wants Grantchester's shares, thought Kenwright was supposed to be selling the rest of his shares to Moshiri ? Wasn't that supposed to be the agreement.
Always wanted Grantchester to pool his resources with Moshiri, probably never happen now, in this day and age the more money we have behind us the better, a bit sad I know.

Was always the plan, Kenwirght isn't selling the remainder of his shares. I posted about this earlier in May.

The problem is that Gomes and Zouma are only on loan and we'll have to spend a big chunk of our budget just to keep them with us, which is always the frustration. Bernard got 1 goal in 34 league games, even if he sparkled at times, that's not good enough. I'm not sure I'd call either him or Mina a 'success'. I wouldn't call them a failure either, mind.

Digne and Richarlison did well and it's more that quality we'll need to sign over the next 3 or 4 windows to get our name mentioned in the battle for the top six. As it stands, we're in the same bracket as Wolves and Leicester.

You're absolutely right that we can do what Spurs and Liverpool have done, with sensible recruitment. We can also ease the financial burden on Mosh by increasing the value of the likes of Pickford, Richarlison, Digne, Lookman and Onyekuru for resale. It's all about FIFA / Footy Manager but if we can flog Englands number one to United when De Gea goes for something daft like £60m, flog Richarlison for £80m, Digne for £40m and get £40m for Lookman and Onyekuru, we'll have covered off FFP and be able to improve more of the squad.

If we can stagger the departures, then it won't be so bad, but that's clearly the way to do it (unless you're City obviously).

Grantchester isn't really cash rich, his money is tried into land.
