Does anyone think having a shop steward type of poster who isn't a mod (obviously) would be a good idea? Someone to mediate with the mods on behalf of posters who get into a bit of hot water over rules etc?

Imo, it could provide a bridge between those who own and run the site and posters who might feel that they cant put their grievances forward in a diplomatic way and things go from bad to worse for them.

Tubey seems like an articulate chap

Yep, another good candidate. He does/did the homepage story too I think, so he's pretty responsible and must have Danny's trust.

I heard that the always perspicacious TuBeS is a QC, so he'd be the wise choice.

Well, that was out of left field!

Gotta be honest here; I'm a complete loose cannon, prone to massive grudges (sorry again Bryan!), I get easily annoyed and I'm possibly the worst choice imaginable for any sort of admin role on this site at all. Ever. In fact, there'd be alarm bells ringing if I was ever on such a list, as it'd indicate the lunatics were running the asylum if I were seen as a "sensible choice".

The main page thing is a very minor favour because I type quickly, but it gives me no authority on here over anything whatsoever.

Not to make this thread about me, but laughing hard at the "Tubey is a QC" rumour  I wish I was that successful! I studied Law, that's where that rumour ends :P That said, it beats being called BlueBastardo!

Right, back on topic...

As for the idea, I don't see the point, for reasons already expressed. I also don't see any reason for the Mod system to be changed or the structure amended. Sure, they can make mistakes, but I think it'd be optimistic in the extreme to expect a flawless moderation system on a site as active as this. It's about as good as it can be, and I'm sure they're constantly streamlining their approach "backstage" in a secret forum.

I haven't seen anything to suggest the mod team favour users over others etc. Sure, I think they give some a bit of leeway where there's no severe intent to abuse the forum - more misguided stupidity that lands certain people in trouble over and over again - but I wouldn't say that I've ever seen a mod bend the rules to suit an agenda (or the like) of a certain user or group of users.

To be frank, GOT has actually been OK recently, considering we've only just came off a transfer window. A lot better than expected, and Groucho has been a very good pick for the team.

If anything, maybe one Mod short. I'd look at the personalities of all the mods, and scout around the user base to see if there's another personality that would fit in to the team, or someone who would be online at an hour that can be unsupervised. But even that isn't a matter of urgency; it's just something I think ought to be considered over the next 3-6 months as GOT expands, ahead of the next transfer window.

I wasn't suggesting the modding be changed, Tubey. Just a poster who would act as a 'go to' person if any poster felt they were not that confident of dealing with a situation.

I see where you're coming from and would be a good idea if the mods were different on here but i don't think anyone would say they're not approachable and easy to talk to if you have an issue so don't think there's much need for a go between.

A simple ''not interested'' would have been sufficient ffs.

I used to try and reason with D/D for good lids on here who messed up or were misconstrued but D/D got onto it and started telling me to do one. They were largely right too. I vouched for Ghost and Suits, and Cal.

It's a great socialist idea from comrade davek but it's a perfect example of what's happening in the UK now. The tories have got rid of all the unions and the legislation entitling the working man to union representation so the employers won't even let unions occur again as it weakens their position of power.

D/D are essentially the tories. The mods are the whips.

REVOLUCION.

Since there are several mods on here, my opinion would be that you could approach one that you felt comfortable with if need be. Not every mod is a favorite of every poster on here so perhaps they could approach another mod or like GrandOldTeam said, you could approach him.

...and as for owning GOT...haha...I'm just a squatter here !!!
