Would understand it if they viewed him as a future manager but not sure how long they can keep deferring that...

This is it for me. The question may also be, if the plan is for him to take over is there really ever going to be a better moment than this summer? He has a whole summer to prepare. Has been learning for 5 years. The club finished 31 points above the drop zone (the biggest in 7 years and 3rd biggest in the last 30). It is not mid season in a panic. He can spend the whole summer/pre season potentially getting the players fitter as he might like. No outstanding candidate has emerged.

If you don't appoint him now, you never will and in honesty it doesn't make sense to keep it as compulsory for him to remain on the staff as Assistant Manager. You may as well say to him go out and prove yourself, as he's not going to be getting any more qualified being an assistant.

I mean I hope he stays as Assistant. He's a good coach, did a great job in charge and is clearly a very loyal man. I'd want him to stay, but I wouldn't insist he has to for any managerial appointment.

Can we have a not really bothered option?

Ill be honest, I have no idea what he does, I know he runs sessions but I don't know if he is a specialist in something (besides being a striker).

I know Dom has credited him quite a bit, but apart from that I don't know how highly respected as a coach he is. He might be really good and knows his stuff which is why he is kept on, reality is we have no idea.

Love Dunc, but it should be the new manager who decides his team not have people forced upon him

Trust the manager to bring in his own staff (Dunc or no Dunc) or give Dunc the job himself.

Imagine not appointing Conte for example because he wants his own man.

I wonder if this is why Nuno hasn't been appointed.

No but it seems its written into any new managers contract that he has to be kept on.

The club is just baffling at the moment.

Yeah it doesn't make sense

Either he's there to be a high level cheerleader - motivation, passion etc - or he's a potential manager and this is as good a time as any to try it out. He won't be worse than Silva or Allardyce.

But we don't really know if his influence is even there as an assistant or coach. I really hope it's not just sentimental to some how keep the spirit of the club alive, cos it's not really working!

But I think it'll only work with a top class coach. A bit like Pep Guardiola's Assistant is sort of a senior figure and mentor to Pep - that kind of assistant manager or first team coach would be ideal if we can find them.

Agree.

Also think they've left it too late to appoint him now.

It's clear they didn't have confidence in him or it would have been done quick.

Yes I mean going nearly 3 weeks, and interviewing people like Benitez and Nuno multiple times has probably hamtstrung them. It will be seen as very underwhelming, but to be honest whoever is in charge is going to seem that now.

I haven't seen said polls, but if it was a Dunc/Benitez/Martinez/Nuno match up I think it would actually be quite even, with probably Nuno winning out, who was a guy who lots were angry about last week.

It’s weird isn’t it. Not many jobs in life where you get a job offer as a manager and get to choose your assistant manager or who works below you. I understand this isn’t a normal job but surely a football manager can work with an assistant as long as the assistant isn’t trying to undermine the manager.

I don’t believe Ferguson would undermine any Everton manager so I don’t see it as a problem. Just comes down to what does Ferguson offer. He knows the club, he knows the players and he has a great rapport with the fans. For that reason I voted yes.

I voted yes because I want him to stay but if the new manager didn't want him then of course not

What i will say is I prefer Dunc on the payroll than the managers son....

If people keep saying we should give the job to him he has to go and prove he can do it elsewhere first. He needs to actually go and do something with a lesser team then maybe people will give him a serious consideration. Until then it just seems that if he remains in position it's just jobs for the boys and isn't serving the club nor is it serving Ferguson just letting him sit comfortably in a coaching role.

It's up to the new manager and they shouldn't be made to feel that they have to shoehorn him in somewhere as if he's part of the club, if Dunc wants to be able to manage us one day then I'd rather he made the decision to go and manage at another club and gain his experience

Does anybody else get the impression that Ferguson doesnt want to be a manager

He wants only to be the Everton manager

Hes 50 which is middle aged for a manager and still hanging about here forever
