Reidy's Bottle Of Grecian

The Unobstructed View
many will remember the game in florence and the build up to it.
they wouldnt give more tickets and their police said that 15,000 if europes worst hooligans were on their way, so a big crackdown was to take place. those that travelled were appalled at their treatment, including bluelass who is originally from the area.

then they rolled out the carpet for rangers, come along for a party, fan parks and everything.

so i thought i'd have a little look at what comes up regarding the shabs, what do i find but nice friendly advice from the foreign and commonwealth office
Newsroom

fiorentina's website which was full of dont come you aren't welcome stuff yet has nothing like that for the r/s, tickets appear to still be on sale, i'll bet they are welcoming them with open arms.

as i said, "unbelievable",

Fiorentina are also taking down the cages for Liverpool. That's nothing to do with memories of H'boro though. The LFC stadium safety officer travelled over and got an agreement to get them removed because of eyelines to the pitch being obstructed.

I bet they wished they'd kept them up after tonight:lol::lol::lol:

they obviously considered us as more of a threat on the pitch, so didnt want a big away support, whereas they were happy for the shabs to show up and happy to take the fences down so they could see them get a thumping.

no doubt they will disgrace themselves at some point off the pitch as well.

Yep, I couldnt believe it either. After all the stick we took in Florence I thought the RS would be contained and constrained but hey presto, they take the barriers down!
Amazing double standards by UEFA but what else do we expect for the darlings of the Champions League.
I wonder what mayhem they caused in the city though - I bet it won't be reported here. I think I'll go and read the Corriere Dello Sport and the local paper for Florence to satisfy my curiosity.:@

well now I feel sick! Just checked the local paper, nothing about the fans but loads of photos of the banner 'Wecome Reds, your story for us is a Legend'

That's it, I've seen it all now.:@:@:@

the chief of police over there sent this out to those lovely people on the shoites forums.......

The Chief of Police in Florence wants to introduce a different way of policing in Italian football grounds. His basic point is this:

"We are going to cater to the needs of visiting supporters and treat them in a civil and welcoming way. We are going to tell them in advance what the rules are and given them all the support they need not to break the rules. If the rules are broken, we will keep you overnight and then charge you the next day, no exceptions. "

With this in mind, he has a whole bunch of ideas and measures he wants to implement. He has the funding and the backing to do it, but he obviously doesn't want to waste money on something that won't be used or isn't of interest to visiting supporters. Especially if there is something else he can do which, in fact, will help visiting fans.

Here are some of his suggestions. I'd be grateful if you could comment on them.

1. Hiring out the PalaMandela : It's a sports hall seating 1200 immediately adjacent to the stadium (and named for Nelson Mandela). He wants to reserve it for visiting Liverpool fans who might want some shelter, or rest or a shower. He'll have live music playing there in the hours before the game (any suggested bands - within reason - he says are welcome/also any type of
music that LIverpool supporters may enjoy). At the PalaMandela there will be food, drink and a first aid station.

2. Pre-match Pasta Party :He wants to pay for some 2000 portions of pasta to be distributed among Liverpool supporters an hour or so before the game.

3. Free bottles of water at the match.

4. Shuttle buses running from the city centre to the stadium before and after the game.

5. A dedicated email and phone number (with an English-speaking operator). This will be given to Liverpool supporters and go straight through to the police. It is to be used if anybody is lost, needs directions, has had something stolen or broken, wants a lift to the game or into town and so on. It will go straight to the police, so he assures a quick response time. He is making this available both before and after the game, because he wants to know of any problems or complaints that Liverpool supporters might have.

6. Normally in cases of extreme drunkennes it's standard practice in Italy for an ambulance to be called and for the individual to be taken to the hospital, usually accompanied by the police. He fears that, if this is done, it might be seen as aggressive and confrontational by Liverpool supporters and he wants to avoid that. So he is considering setting up a fully-equipped medical tent at the stadium, so that drunk fans could be treated and checked immediately, without being led away from their mates. This is obviusly quite expensive and he would like to know if, in your opinion, it's worth doing.

7. ALCOHOL. He is leaning towards a ban on matchday. His main concern is that, in years past, when he has allowed alcohol, damage was done, in particular to city buses and public property. He is open to suggestions - one possibility is banning the sale in supermarkets, but allowing it in bars and restaurants, provided it is sold in plastic cups (he is concerned about broken glass). He says that, unlike Rome, if there is a ban, he will enforce it with hefty fines within the city limits.

8. He wants to make large quantities of non-alcoholic beer available at and around the ground.

9. Ticketing - this could be a problem and it could be outside his control, so he is asking for patience and understanding. Italian law requires nominal tickets, in other words your name must be on the ticket and you need to present a photo-document proving who you are.
He is working on a system of vouchers that might make things easier for everyone, but he is very much open to suggestions. And he would be grateful if you could help explain the situation. Once the rules are made, he will be very inflexible on this point.

10. Basically, he wants to know of any other issues/concerns/ suggestions you or your members might have.

as i said, "file under unbelievable".

this was a r/s response....
Re the non alcoholic beer: ask him to look how many of ours have been arrested at Euro and domestic aways in the last 5/10 years. I imagine the figures would undermine any fears about alcohol fuelled mass misbehaviour.

Out of interest, is there a big rivalry between the Viola and I Bianconeri?

they hate Juve and Roma apparently, so given the r/shoites history with Juve, their friendliness towards them is basically an endorsement of Heysel.
Yet we were held accountable for their actions at the time and also when we played Fiorentina, a case of 'we love the shoite so we have to hate you and treat you as if it were you that murdered fans in Brussels.'

tbh i dont know how we could expect anything any different from such a tin-pot regime that adopts the fsw's rotation system in it's parliament and official positions.

maybe the officials were got at by r/s, i.e. postings on forums pretending to be us, on our way for trouble ?
i wouldnt be suprised by that at all.

The way they treated our fans was ******* shocking but it sounds like they've learned loads of lessons from that & are doing their best to make future games far more enjoyable for visiting fans. As much as it pains me to admit it, the redshite did things the right way, they sent someone over there a few weeks ago, saw the facilities & said they weren't good enough & asked them to make some changes. Maybe if our club had done the same thing we would have all had a better trip.

We were treated appallingly but as much other fans shouldn't have to go through what some of our fans did just because they did it to us & they want to make it fair. If we ever go back we'll probably all have a much more enjoyable experience.

Doesnt sound the "right way" for me. Sending someone over just means "we have problems with you facilities, they might not be up to scratch for us and we want some changed". Almost comes across as saying that the RS need to check up to see if its worthy of playing.

Florentina havent been in the Champs league for a few years, havent had a big foreign team playing there for years, so they'll happily welcomed the RS with open arms and roll out the red carpet for the "honour". Same probably would be said if the other sky 4 turned up.

Everyone else its back of the bus time where anything goes.

incorrect, as they were in the c.l. last season. they played lyon, b munich, steaua bucharest
forget about c.l. though as uefa is also a european comp and they got to the semi of that, so ground regs have to be met etc. wether there are 100 or 5,000 visiting fans, at the time protests were made prior to the game but were basically thrown in the bin, they even had a message on their o.s. telling us not to come.
their heavy handedness and refusal to welcome us to their city basically ruined a trip for many, and did me out of a 40th trip with the mrs. we were portrayed as the worst of the worst by their police and media, yet the fans that uefa regard as the worst in europe are lorded as saints.
i don't actually believe that they are the worst and think that most of what goes on when they travel also goes with some of our fans as well, mostly drunkenness and unsocial behaviour that they find offensive, i reckon 150 croats turning up will create far more problems than our full complement of away support.

Did you go when we played them? I did & it was the worst ground I've ever been to in my life. We were stuck in some crappy little part of the ground where we could barely see a thing & those of us lucky enough to walk in without any problems walked past loads of kitted out police seemingly waiting for an excuse to come & crack our skulls. The redshite did things more professionally than we did, they went over there a few weeks earlier, saw how bad the facilities were & asked them to make changes & their fans presumably got a much better day out because of it.

Let's not **** about, they have far more experience of European games than we have but if we'd done what they did, maybe they'd have taken the fences down like they did for last nights game, maybe they wouldn't have had a load of police standing inside the ground looking so threatening & maybe they'd have treated our fans better both inside & outside the ground.

There was loads of mistakes made when we went over there, they've realised that & put some of them right for last night's game. Should they realise their mistakes but keep making them because they made our fans suffer? As much as I like the idea of kopites going through the same [Poor language removed] as most of our fans, it'd be wrong to not change things when they realise their errors.

Here are a couple of pics in case anyone who didn't go wants to know what I'm going on about:
