Financial Fair Play investigation

Lots of details, 'B' is what I was referring to. As for Blades, they got a transfer ban in Jan this year and are being monitored by the league
Because of non-payment of transfer instalment(s). Not strictly an FFP breach but definitely a reason brwach- it's not a breach of spending limits though but not meeting cash obligations as they fall due.

So what do you call it when premier league tells Everton that they have complied with the rules and told Burnley and Leeds that Everton have complied with the rules and then accuse them of not complying with the rules less than a year later?

A big whoopsie?
Its not unheard of, see the Derby and Sheffield Wednesday cases in the Football League.

I would say it is a case of taking the numbers at face value at the time but analysing the detail later. As in these two Football League cases. Which in theory they may have the right to do.

The efl is not a precedent for the pl to follow

If anything the pl should hold a much higher standard when it comes to this sort of thing

You can’t just brush a big whoopsie under the carpet and not have any repercussions

Our net transfer spend over the past 5 seasons sees us 15th place with two of the sides below us clubs who were promoted within that timeframe in Brentford and Bournemouth. Only Palace, Leicester and Brighton have a lower net spend.

So the team that is 15th out of 20th for net transfer spend in the last 5 years is being accused of breaching financial fair play

This is literally a joke

It’s a witch-hunt against Everton

The rules are stupid
It's not net spend that counts, it's profit and loss.

Fair. Yeah I concur that Covid would add costs for this sort of thing. I still don't go on for the £170-220m in claimed add-backs however. Seems high.

I was wondering if we were preparing to sell Sigurdsson as he was nearing contract end, then Covid hit, made that sale not happen, then of course everything else so he's not saleable at all. Could those losses be attributed to Covid, based upon his transfer value at the time.

Well no duh

But the media rhetoric is that we have spent 700 mil alluding to us going on some mad spending spree like a sheikh who has let his son loose on a credit card with no limit

Clearly not on players though if we are 15th for net spend over 5 years

The club is run abysmally

Promissory estoppel is though. If they promised they wouldn’t take us to a commission and we kept spending them they could be prevented from taking further action against us.

I reckon they made no assurances to us and just put the inevitable off a bit.
Estoppel as you say all depends on the specifics of the type of assurance. Had they said "Okay we accept the numbers for now but as is our right we will be analysing further over time" then procedural defences aren't that applicable

Should be at a higher standard although I do believe that the EFL have some positive sanctioning guidelines.

Rick Parry took over- a key question is what did sign-off entail exactly?

Lost count of the number of times since around 2018.

Lost count. He was warning of the risks of what was going on during the summer of 2021 and last summer too.

The summer of 2021, Everton were limited to two signings for £1.7 million and were essentially in special measures and having to have signings pre-approved by Premier League. This was being kept hush hush by individuals at Everton Football Club (i.e. Baxendale).

The other independent shareholders and the EFCSA members are all very concerned about what is going on.

Yet no EFC AGM can take place as Kenwright and Baxendale have seen to its cancellation. The shareholders are being blocked from calling an EFC EGM too

It is an absolute scandal
Yeah but he got the witsel signing wrong so anything else he said carried no weight on here.

Seems fair though only £8-9m in amortisation and say £5.2m for the last season of wages. Based on reported fees and guesses although I did see that he was on £100k a week.

The other £32-36m and £20-24m in wages would have been accounted for so what argument to add the whole thing? Everton gained the benefit on the pitch for 4 seasons.

Because if we can successfully argue the valuation that was placed upon him was £30m and a buyer was in place, then we can claim losses of £30m. Would obviously have to prove a deal close to completion prior to Covid though.

Only a theory.

As far as I am aware, only a purchase is amorticised, not a sale. If we bought a player on a 5 year contract at £25m, and sold him the next day for £25m, we would have £20m profit for that year.

He was arrested in July 2021?

Alright then £30m sale price- £8-9m in remaining book value plus £5.2m estimated in wages. £26.2-27.2m.

That's being generous. He played 36 games for Everton in 2020-21 out of 3i League games.
